WP - Booth

Tuessday, Feb 16th

The game took two days, but the PHU Hurricanes ended up on the better half of another extra inning game vs Clearwater Tuesday and Wednesday.  The game was suspended due to darkness at the end of 9th inning all knotted up at one on Tuesday and was concluded Wednesday afternoon.  The extended portion of the game was quick as PHU was victorious in the bottom of the 10th winning 2-1.

Senior John Pichman took the mound and battled in a pitcher’s duel all game.  Pichman tossed seven full innings giving up only one run, fours hits, three walks and six strikeouts in the non-decision.  Making his high school debut, Freshman lefty Andrew Booth was called in relief in the extra innings and was impressive hurling three shutout innings allowing only one hit and three strikeouts for his first high school victory.

Offensively, the Canes were kept off balance most of the day by a crafty Clearwater pitcher.  PHU managed to put one run up in the bottom of the first when Senior Adam Jurco reached on base due to an error.  Pichman also reached on an error scoring Jurco for the 1-0 lead.

Clearwater picked up a run in the top of the second inning and then the bats went silent for both squads as zeros were put up on the board for several innings.  The Hurricanes scattered eight hits throughout the game and had their scoring chances but could not plate.  Within the contest, Senior Brian Brown two hits (triple and single) Jurco blasted a triple, Junior Carter Wilson launched a double, Senior Evan DiFransesco, Senior Riley Degnan, Pichman, Senior Dan Hollander each singled.

All tied up at one a piece in the 10th inning on Wednesday.  Booth picked up two of his strikeouts in the 10th as the Canes came out swinging in their bottom half.  With the green light on a 3-0 count, Pichman laced a single.  Senior Brian Brown steps to the plate.  Taking ball one, Brown fouls off the next pitch and proceeds to gap the next pitch to right center for a walk-off triple scoring Pichman for the exciting extra inning win.

The Palm Harbor Canes take on District foe Alonso this Friday, Feb 19th with first pitch slated for 4:00 pm at Home.
