WP - C. Mink

PHU big bats came out in a huge way on Tuesday night vs Tarpon Springs as the Hurricanes were victorious in a commanding 14-0 win over the crosstown opponent Spongers.

Led by Senior Brian Brown’s four RBI day, The Canes built an early lead and added from there in the shortened five inning contest.

Senior lefty Colt Mink started for Palm Harbor and was effective allowing no runs to go along with his five strikeouts and two hits in three innings of work for the win. Junior Dan Nichols looked impressive in his two innings of shutout relief giving up only one hit and notching one strikeout.

Offensively, Palm Harbor got it started early in the first inning. Senior Riley Degnan (2-4, double, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored, reached on error, stolen base) reaches on an error. Senior Adam Jurco (2-2, 3 runs scored, 2 walks, stolen base) drills a line drive shot to right center as Degnan hustles into third. Senior John Pichman (2 RBI, 2 runs scored, single) follows with a sharp single scoring Degnan. Senior Brian Brown (2-2, 4 RBI, run scored), takes a 1-0 pitch and launches it over the left field fence for a towering three run home run.

The Canes got on the board again in the second inning as Senior AJ Hrica (1-2, 2 runs scored, 2 walks, stolen base) singles. Degnan also singles to left field and the speedy Hrica scores as the left fielder lets the ball get by him.

PHU continues their scoring when Jurco leads off the 3rd inning with a walk. Jurco advances to second on a groundout by Pichman and proceeds to steal third. Continuing with his hot bat, Brown laces a single scoring Jurco to make the score 6-0.

Palm Harbor flexed their bats scoring eight more in the 5th inning. Jurco singles to lead off the inning. Pichman and Brown each walk to load the bases. Junior Nick Bell comes in to pitch run for Brown. Senior Dan Hollander (RBI, run scored) is hit by a pitch for the easy RBI. Senior catcher Harrison Long (double, 2 RBI) blasts a line shot down the left field line for a double easily scoring Pichman and Bell with Hollander advancing to third. Junior Carter Wilson (2 RBI, double) gaps a double to right center scoring Hollander and Long. Extending the inning, Hrica is walked. Degnan then connects deep over the head of the centerfielder for a stand up double scoring Wilson and Hrica. Jurco walked and Degnan steals third. Pichman reaches on a fielder’s choice scoring Degnan.

Nichols struck out the first batter in the bottom half of the 5th, followed by Freshman Mitch Farris catching the second out in left field. Freshman Andrew Booth grabs the two hop grounder at first base and takes it unassisted for the final out of the game.

PHU hosts Sarasota Riverview at home Friday afternoon in a district game with the first pitch slated for 4:00 pm.
