GAME 7-TARPON SPRINGS AT PHU

The Palm Harbor Hurricanes got back on the winning track Monday night with an impressive 7-0 shutout victory over Tarpon Springs High School. Three Pitchers teamed up with nine strikeouts (three each) as PHU blanked the Spongers. Senior Nick Bell provided the hot bat for the Canes with four RBI's on two hits.
 
Senior Dan Nicholls was given the start and was is command early notching three strikeouts, no runs and only one hit. Sophomore Matt Coleman came in relief in the 4th inning and was just as impressive tossing two nearly perfect innings striking out three, no runs, no hits and one walk. Sophomore Andrew Booth closed the game with a 1-2-3 three strikeout performance.
 
Offensively, the Canes got on board early and never looked back. In the bottom half of the first, senior lead-off hitter Nick Bell (2-4, 4 RBI, two runs scored) singles and stole second to get things going for PHU. Junior Ryan Laheney (single, walk) singles advancing Bell to third base. Sophomore Hunter Mink (single, RBI, walk) laces a double scoring Bell for the early 1-0 lead.
 
The Hurricanes continued their scoring in the second inning when senior Joe Mattei (double, run, walk) doubles. Sophomore Tyler Hoffman (two runs scored, walk) draws a four pitch base on balls. Senior Carter Wilson (run scored, walk, HBP) follows up with a free pass of his own to load the bases. Bell reaches on an error scoring Mattei and Hoffman as C Wilson advances to third and Bell to second. Sophomore Tanner Mink (2-4, 2 RBI's) singles scoring C Wilson and the speedy Bell making the score 5-0 PHU.
 
PHU plated two more run in the 5th inning when freshman Pat Keenan (1-3, run scored, walk) walked and advanced to second on a Mattei walk. Hoffman hits into a fielders choice forcing out Mattei. C. Wilson is hit by a pitch. With the bases loaded full of Canes, Bell loads up on an 0-1 pitch and doubles to left easily scoring Keenan and Hoffman.
 
The Palm Harbor Hurricanes squad were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error and along with great pitching and hitting, the Canes were victorious.
 
Palm Harbor travels to Alonso Thursday, March 9th with game time starting at 7:00 pm.
