With four games on tap this week, the Palm Harbor Hurricanes flexed their bats vs ranked Mitchell on Tuesday night. Down 5-2, the Canes batted 11 men in the big 5th seven run inning in route to an exciting 10-8 victory over the Mustangs.

Senior Brian Brown started on the mound and in his three innings of work, Brown battled scattering four hits, two earned runs and one strikeout. Senior Kyle Bailey came in the 4th inning tossing three innings of relief work fanning three to pick up the win. Senior lefty Riley Degnan needed only eleven pitches in the 7th inning notching two strikeouts, no hits, no runs, no walks as he retired the side to pick up the save.

Offensively, PHU banged out 13 hits collectively with four players having a multi-hit game. Down early 1-0, Palm Harbor put a couple on the board in the second inning. Senior Dan Hollander (1-3, double, 2 RBI, walk, stolen base) reaches first on a four pitch walk. Senior Evan DiFrancesco (3-4, RBI, 2 runs scored, double, stolen base) singled. Junior Carter Wilson (RBI, sac, 2 walks) lift a deep enough sac fly ball scoring Hollander as DiFrancesco tags to advance to third and scores on a balk to take the early 2-1 lead.

Mitchell plates four more runs but a big 5th inning puts the lead back to PHU. Senior AJ Hrica (2-4, HBP, run scored) singles to lead off the inning. Senior Riley Degnan (RBI sac, 2 walk, run scored) receives a base on balls. After fouling a few pitches off, Senior Adam Jurco (2-3, sac, walk, run scored) singles to load the bases. With the bases full of Canes, Senior John Pichman, who had a banner night at the dish (3-5, 4 RBI, 2 runs scored), attempts to ask for time but didn’t receive, blasts a straight-away bases clearing double. Senior Brian Brown takes on 0-1 pitch and laces a RBI single scoring Pichman. Sophomore Ryan Laheney (single, walk) singles advancing Freshman Tyler Hoffman, who was running for Brown. Freshman Mitch Farris comes in to run for Laheney. Hollander proceeds to rips a double scoring the hustling Hoffman and Farris. DiFrancesco knocks another single advancing Hollander to third. Wilson is walked to load the bases. Hrica grounds into a fielder’s choice forcing out Hollander at home. Degnan pushes DiFrancesco across the plate with a deep fly ball to left field for the sacrifice RBI for the 9-5 lead.

Palm Harbor plates one more insurance run in the 6th inning when Pichman leads off the inning roping a line drive shot that wouldn’t stay in the yard as Pichman blasts his first round tripper of the year for the 10-5 lead.

The Mustangs score three in their bottom half of the 6th inning as Degnan comes in the 7th to close the game.
