WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE DISCOUNT COUPON CARD?
1. Unfortunately, it takes more money to run the league than we collect in registration fees. I know that’s hard to believe, but things are expensive and add up fast! Example: Uniforms cost approximately $15,000. (majority of people want to keep the uniforms each year, which makes this a cost to the league every year) Umpires cost the league approximately $12,000. We are charged field usage fees of $5,500. Insurance for the league cost approximately $3,000. Baseballs are $2,500! Those some of the items we have to budget for each season. In order to help pay for these costs, we have had fundraisers and ask for sponsors. Unfortunately, we do not get enough league members volunteering their time to help with the fundraisers and sponsorships. Last season we had 800+ parents in the league, and only approximately 10 helped. This number is very sad. Therefore, to be fair to the people who volunteer time and time again – we decided to include a fundraiser for each family to participate in – the Discount Coupon Card.
2. Our snack bar at Sherwood Field offers some revenue to the league, as well as convenience for the league members. In years past, the league would require each team to participate in the snack bar duties. This was not popular among the league parents, and caused some to “NO SHOW” on their shifts. This becomes a big problem to the board members who are trying to enjoy their own child’s game or family time. And it becomes a problem to the league, as we sometimes have to pay for people to work those shifts. If you have been involved in soccer or football, you will know that it is mandatory that you volunteer within their league or lose gear or game time. We do not want to operate this way. We would like your time at the ball field to be pleasurable.
