Panther Field & Facilities
Paul VI recently constructed a multi-million dollar, state of the art student activities center. The new building opened in the fall of 2003 and includes a new and larger gymnasium, new locker rooms and many other needed amenities. In addition, the new building provided space for a newly constructed weight room and fitness center.
Along with the changes to the school building, many recent improvements to “Nellis Stadium at Panther Field” (the home of PVI baseball) have allowed Paul VI to provide the finest baseball facility in the area for its players, thus creating an exciting and professional environment to practice and play.
Home crowds regularly fill the bleachers around the complex!
The Panther Field Baseball Complex includes:
- Fully enclosed, lighted, Major League size field with seating for over 2500 fans.

- Patriot Bermuda grass playing surface installed in 2005.
- State of the art, underground irrigation and drainage system.
- Major League quality batting practice “turtle” and array of professional screens.
- 1600 square foot “press box & clubhouse” facility directly behind home plate with lockers, storage space and a coaches office.
- Upgraded sound system for announcing and music.
- Enlarged home dugout with new benches, bat rack, helmet rack and adequate equipment space.
- Two 90’ x 20’ artificial turf batting and pitching facilities.
- Multiple hitting stations set up to accommodate 20 hitters at one time.
Nellis Stadium at Panther Field is the only on-campus home field in the WCAC with lights!
Paul VI is one of only two schools in the conference able to host a night game at all. Day games are great, but not all fans can make a day game and nothing beats the thrill and excitement of a game under the lights! Already the finest baseball facility in the metropolitan area, with the help of annual fundraising and dedicated volunteers, Panther Field will be one of the nation’s best in just a few short years.

The playing surface is pro-quality and hundreds of fans regularly fill the bleachers behind home plate and in parts of the outfield, giving Paul VI Baseball one of the highest attendance rates in the area for high school baseball.
Students fill the left field bleachers as Washington Post All-Met performer Rob Lamas catches a strike during a May 2006 evening match-up between #6 DeMatha and #7 Paul VI. The Panthers triumphed by the score of 2-1 in one of the highest attended games of the year with an estimated crowd of 1500.
