Meet with Blake
The RHS Swim and Dive team (with almost 60 swimmers) got off to roaring start with a scrimmage against Blake (Div. 2) on Saturday. Coach Schwartz did not score a win but discovered great talent for the upcoming Division 4 season. New to the Rockville line-up are freshman stars Elliot Shein and Daniel Wolf. Shein came 2nd in the 100 back (1:14.54), swam fly in the medley relay (2nd), and anchored the 400 freestyle relay (2nd). Daniel Wolf placed 2nd in the 50 free (26.35), 2nd in the 200 medley relay (free) and 2nd 400 free relay (anchor). Another great freshman performance came from Steven Noll, scoring 2nd in the 100 breast (1:24.47) and 3rd in the 200 free (2:22.03). Female freshman, Anna Damone, will be a strong contender, placing 4th in the 100 free (1:11.84) and swimming breast in the 5th place medley relay team.
Seniors Kara Morrill, Jimmy Spahn and Matt Kubasik placed top 3 in their events. Morrill placed 1st in the 100 fly (1:09.18), swam fly in the medley relay (3rd) and anchored the 400 free relay (2nd). Spahn placed 3rd in the 100 free (1:08.82) and anchored the 2nd place Medley relay. Kubasik swam fly in the Medley relay (3rd) and the first leg of the 400 free relay (2nd).
Junior Michael Vlahakis had a great diving performance, placing 2nd and anchored the 400 free relay (3rd). Classmates Andrea Morris, Vinnie Curl and Paul Kitsoulis also scored big; Andrea in the 100 back (2nd-1:19.38) and Medley relay (back-3rd), Vinne Curl, 50 free (3rd-26.97) and 100 free (2nd-1:05.47) and Paul Kistsoulis, 3rd in both the 200 IM (2:45.77) and 200 medley relay (breast).
Sophomore Eric Sachs displayed his County Championship diving skills, placing first in the 3 meter diving. Samantha Dorsey placed first in the women’s diving with a strong first performance.
The Rockville Rams showed great spirit and sportsmanship! New swimmer Mikaya Watson even jumped in to compete when another swimmer could not swim!
