RJF&C Juniors Back On Track

The Rutherford Junior Bulldogs (10-11 year olds) improved their record to 4-1 this week with an 18-0 win over the Lyndhurst Bears. Cole Goumas had another big day carrying the ball for two touchdowns behind the line of Yahya El Feshawi, Luke Cerulli, David Rojas, and Owen Fernandez. Ryan Ward made numerous catches and scored a touchdown for the Bulldogs, while carrying  several of the Bears’ defenders into the end zone on a pass from quarterback Jack Daly. Arthur Costan had a good game on offense getting tough yards up the middle while Laudan Henry had numerous runs to help push the Bulldogs down the field. The Bulldogs defense was led by Chris Lora who had tremendous tackles in the backfield. Antonio “Animal” DeCarlo and Marchello Fernandez helped Lora on defense by keeping the Bears scoreless. The Rutherford Mighty Mites (7 year olds) lived up to their name as they  crossed the goal line six times against Lyndhurst this weekend. Quinn Weber took a bootleg to the house for one, and threw another to RB Zach Snyder. Snyder also went 60 yards for an earlier score, lead by Damian Gregory around the corner. Gregory also took a dive up the middle to start the scoring onslaught behind an offensive line that didn’t quit all day.  Sebastian Rojas and Will Holman each blazed down the sideline for the final touchdowns of the day. On Defense, the Bulldogs yielded just one big play that moved the chains for Lyndhurst’s only score. Led by Holman, John Cartwright, Vinny Urgola, and Logan Bohn, the defense was swarming and proved to be too much for the Golden Bears. The Rutherford Pee Wee Bulldogs (8-9 year olds) battled to the very last play dropping a 13-12 decision. The Rutherford defense was solid in the 1st half, keeping the Bears scoreless. Linebackers Emmet Carney, Lorenzo Airey and defensive linemen Evan Diaz, Jayden Arlauskas, and Vincent Denunzio helped protect the Bulldogs lead. The Bulldogs took an early edge against the Bears, marching 63 yards on 9 plays, culminating with a George Brewton 2 yard plunge. The offensive line was anchored by Declan Manning, Russ Snyder, Angelo Pizza,  AJ Nunziato  and Joey Philp. Lyndhurst got on the board in the 2nd half and owned a 7-6 lead going into the fourth quarter. After a Bulldogs drive stalled at the Bears 48, Lyndhurst quickly scored again and extended its lead to 13-6. The Bulldogs got the ball back with just a couple minutes remaining and a chance at a game tying drive. Getting the ball to Brewton and Corey Simmons and killing the clock, QB Myles Balchan executed the perfect 2 minute drill. On third-and-goal from the 3 yard line, Brewton and the Bulldogs found the end zone.  Needing the extra point to tie the game, the Bears defense stopped Brewton inches from the goal line and held on for a tough fought victory. The RJF&C Senior Bulldogs (12-13 year olds) dropped another game to the Lyndhurst Golden Bears 28-0. A quick score by Lyndhurst put the Dogs down 8-0 immediately. The remainder of the first quarter stayed the same as each team battled between the 30 yard lines. At the end of the first half, the Bulldogs found themselves down 20-0 as Lyndhurst executed systematic drives downfield. The second half saw The Golden Bears come out to finish as they scored again making the game final. The RJF&C program is home against Carlstadt/East Rutherford this Saturday.
