Indians Snap 7 Game Skid
The Indians picked up their first win in over a month and then followed that up with another to sweep the season series from the Solons. In Game 1 Mike Titlow threw a gem. He took a no hitter into the 5th inning as the Tribe built a lead. The Game was scoreless into the 3rd inning when the Tribe finally got on the board. With 2 outs, Kevin Nims drew a walk and stole 2nd base. Ron Cimino then drove him in with an RBI single. Moments later Everett Coil doubled in Cimino and th Indians had a 2-0 lead. In the 4th, back to back doubles by Travis Gundolff and Eddie Shaldone produced a run. Shaldone would score on a single by Daniel Moore. With Moore now on 3rd, he would then score on a sac fly by Troy Hensly to give the Tribe a 5-0 lead. The Indians added two more in the 5th with a leadoff single by Coil to get things started. Coil then scored on a double by Tom Turner. Turner would score moments later on Gundolff's second hot of the game to stretch the lead out to 7-0.
Down 7-0 the Solons did not go away quitely. The Solons started hitting in the 6th and the Indians defense did not hold up. The Tribe made 5 errors in the 6th that led to 4 Solons runs and let them back in the game.
A walk by Moore and Hensley's 3rd hit of the day added one back for the Tribe in the 6th to make it an 8-4 game. Each team added two runs in the 8th and then the game was called due to time limits with the Indians picking up a 10-8 win over the Solons.
Standout performaces included Daniel Moore who went 2-3 with 2 walks, scored 3 runs and swiped a base. Troy Hensley went 3 for 4 with a 2B, that hit the top of the fence in left, and 3 RBI's and Travis Gundolff who also picked a 2B, 2 singles and walked in 5 AB's. Indians pitcher Mike Titlow, started threw 8 innings giving up just 4 earned runs on 8 hits.
Game 2 started off with a bang for the visiting Indians. The Tribe would send 12 men to the plate and score 8 runs in the top of the first. Daniel Moore stared the game with a double to left on the first pitch of the game. He scored mon a single by Jason Christian, Hensley walked, Gundolff singled followed by an RBI single by Mike Titlow. BJ Tanner then drove in 2 on a single, Juaquin Chaconwas then hit by a pitch, Everett Coil singled to load the bases yet again for Tom Turner. Turner then doubled to left to put the finishing touch on an 8 run inning for the Tribe.
Jason Christian took the mound for the Indians and had one of his finest performances as a menber of the Indians. Christian gave up just three hits in three innings while allowing just two earned runs.
The Indians menawhile, kept adding runs, with 3 in the 2nd and 3rd and 2 more in the 4th the Tribe build a substancial lead on their way to a 16-5 win and a season sweep of the Solons.
In other action around the league it was also sweeps week as all games in the 28AA/A division were all sweeps. The Indians got some help from the Storm as they swept the A's, the Red Sox took two from the Redbirds, the Dodgers took a pair from the Dirtlines, The Longhorns handed the Giants two losses and the Bats took two from the Royals. With the two wins, the Indians climb out of the cellar of the American League and now find themselves back in the playoff hunt and tied with the A's for 4th.
The Indians are off for the 4th of July weekend and will be back in action on July 15th as they take on the National League leading Dodgers who are 10-3. In the past, the Indians and Dodgers/Rams/Panthers games have always been competitive no matter what the records are and this week will be no different. The Indians hold a 3-1 advantage against the Dodger/Rams/Panthers franchise in the three year rivalry between these two teams. Game time and location will be announced later next week.
