Injury toll mounts
As round three of the South East Coast Basketball League prepares to tip off, the injury toll continues to mount.
Following news of Stacey Fox’s knee injury last week, a number of other players will also be absent from the court tonight.
Fox will be joined on the sidelines by Bulldogs’ Karli McDiarmid in the women’s competition, while Pete Holmes will be unable to take his place with Lakers in the men’s competition.
After further diagnosis, Panthers’ Fox is unsure how long she will be absent from the floor, but was relieved to be cleared of a second knee reconstruction in two years.
Fox suffered crushed cartilage in her fall last week, and although she was cleared of the need for a knee reconstruction, could still face surgery if there is no improvement in the next fortnight.
McDiarmid suffered an ankle injury on Monday night which will leave her out of Bulldogs’ lineup to face Cougars tonight.
X-rays yesterday revealed no bone damage, leaving the injury confined to stretched ligaments.
Holmes will miss Lakers’ clash with Wizards tonight after sustaining a hamstring injury on the weekend.
Fox’s injury could have an impact on the women’s game of the week, which will see her Panthers side square off against Cats.
In Fox’s absence, guards Jess Bartetzko and Haylee Gillies will need to fill the void.
The top men’s game will pit Panthers against Cougars, with Panthers aiming to keep their unbeaten opening to the season alive, while Cougars hope to bounce back from a disappointing loss last week to Lakers.
