The Big Bad Basher Ball was a big hit, lots of food and drink and cool certificates for all Bashers. Ya gotta love when you are bestowed with anything, in my opinion. Many thanks to the volunteers who saved me a couple of slices of delicious pizza...It was greatly appreciated by me and my empty belly. I have some pics forthcoming from the Big Banquet...look for them to be online here soon for all to enjoy. Thanks to H. Wagner and D Young for the big save on the Banquet pics.

Christmas in August Draw now to be done online via You Tube Video over the next 48 hours. Sorry for the delays...good thing I didn't call it Thanksgiving in August eh?

I have placed the Thank You Emails I received from Roddy Conrad and Bridget in the Guestbook linked on the top bar of this page. Once again, from all of us to all of you, many thanks for everything all of you do, everyday, all day, all summer long.

ScotiaBank Mosquito Bashers are 2007 Shelburne County League Champions, defeating the Liverpool Privateers 9-6 on Wednesday Night in the League Final. Undefeated throughout the five day tournament (with the rain and field availability and travel times really messing up the original schedule), the Bashers complete an incredible season, tallying up another Bronze in the Yarmouth Seafest Tournament, (to match the 2006 medal), improving on the provincial stage to Silver with their narrow 12-11 loss to the Gold Medal Winning Woods Harbour Navigators, (last year's mosquito squad finished in third), and capping it all off with the division's first Shelburne County League Title in recent history.

A big massive congrats to all the boys who have worked so hard this year to ensure that they could enjoy these championship moments that they so rightly deserved. Lane Conrad gets the Championship win with 6 strikeouts (1 walk) with Ryan Taylor coming from nowhere to win the Game MVP (Triple in the Fifth).

The Mosquito Bashers took out the C.H.#1 on Monday 14-11; game MVP Lane Conrad was 2/2 &4RBIs and pitch the last 2 innings allowing only 2 hits with 4 Ks. An exciting game played at the complex, the semi final win improved the team's record to 3-0, including their round robin wins over CH and Liverpool to push them into the big time.

Look for an article to appear in the Coast Guard this week.

Updated information added to the Christmas in August Link and the NSSAF Championship Link. Take a look and see the final updates to the online contest and the news story we have been following for the last two months concerning the big championship being held in our area. Also, make sure to vote on the most important poll of the season: what do you want to eat at the Basher Banquet...They all sound so good!!!!!

NEWS BREAK: Mosquito League Championship Trophy is missing!!!!!!! Just joking: last year's winners, the Foggies, will be sending the trophy onto the Mosquito Bashers for the winter...A huge big leap back in time to say a BIG THANK YOU to Woods Harbour for purchasing the League Title a few years ago: She is a Beauty.

May I suggest to you that the winter is never as long as it seems, and that the summer is never really over...every night I turn of the tube and see baseball everywhere...i look out my window and see baseball everywhere in my tiny front yard...I look around and get a sense that baseball still lives, and lives right now in Shelburne....I can feel it coming...like a BLAST of BALLed of Winter, INSIDE pitch, brushed back, way to high, LEAGUEs away from my sweet spot. Why do I talk in tongue? Stay tuned!!!!!!!

I am still organizing all of the pics from the season. I understand that there is a Mosquito Disk on the way to Roddy for all of you Mosquito fans outs there. If there are any pics from this division that parents would like to have featured on this website over the winter months, email them to me. I have begun to email some pics to parents, but will be making disks soon.

DONT FORGET OUR BANTAM BOYS WHO WILL BE COMPETING THIS WEEKEND OF THE SHELBURNE COUNTY LEAGUE TITLE...I BELIEVE THEY ARE GOING TO CLARKS HARBOUR FOR THEIR TOURNAMENT, SO IF YOU FIND YOURSELF OUT THAT WAY, ENJOYING MACDONALDS FOOD, SWIMMING AT SAND HILLS (dont laugh, its been pretty warm in the afternoon, Basher Nation) OR LEARNING ABOUT ALIENS IN SHAG HARBOUR, IF YOU GET A CHANCE, GRAB A COFFEE AND GO ENJOY SOME GOOD BASEBALL IN CLARK'S HARBOUR

GS Bashers have an awesome time at the Complex Field for the Last Practice Wrap Up Game VS Parents under the lights. With free pizza and pop and tons of laughs and giggles all night long, it was a great way for the team to end its great season. Exta big congrats to the much younger Auto Parts Team, led by Todd Goodick, Matt Haliburton and the coaching staff, who had a very successful season this year. Look for great things for this team in the future. In fact, if I may be so bold without any intention of being cocky, I am looking forward to watching both Rookie Teams compete for League Supremacy next year with such a strong core of players on each team. Vive Les Bashers!!!!!

Pink Shout out to the Basher Girls playing in the system, from Ball School on up. Everyone bow down to the Mosquito R Silver Medalists!!!!! Good work boys!

If you check the Photo Album section, you will find 10 new pics from various leagues...I have just added them and hope to add more as the days pass. Hope you like them!

I have decided to burn disks off for GS Rookie Parents and Peewee Parents...with so many pictures, it is the only way to do it. I will be charging a $2.00 fee to cover costs of the CDS and the wear and tear on the laptop. I will be putting some more pics on the site tonight (Monday) so anyone who has a cool pic they want to put on the site, email me and I will put them on.

Updated Menu Options to begin resurfacing with finished edits of the news and stories that have been touched on here at Basher Central. Polled to be featured soon, as will updates on the NSSAF Baseball Championship and the Rated R Provincials held around the province. Check back often and see what pops up again.

If you know of a parent volunteer who you think deserves a big thank you on this site from all Basher Nation, email the webmaster and I will put them on the Hall of Fame Volunteer List which will be added to the menu on the side. Emails will be accepted for another two weeks.

Big Thanks to all of you who have visited this site over the last six months. We here at Basher Central hope that all of you will continue to visit the site over the next month as potential new programs and updates will continue to flood the site. Take Care

Some new info below, including some scores with the Rookie Championship (Goulden Shell Bashers lose in Semin Final game) and an update that the Peewee Bashers lost 12-2 to Woods Harbour Navigators in the Peewee House Championship. Two Clark's Harbour teams squared off for the Rookie Championship, two Woods Harbour teams squared off for the Peewee Championship. Results are unavailable at this time.

If I can stop working on a Rated R Peewee Video (man that program is fun, you tube, how are you doing), I will be adding more here, including the results of recent weeks for all teams. Still scanning through over 1200 pics from the season: look for a solution to getting these into your hands (the parents) on a disc to be on the site soon.

Coast Guard did not print the pics from the Mosquito R Provincials in Shelburne so they will be online here tonight. Once again, congrats to our most successful team this season. Great job guys

If you haven't been here in a couple of days, continue to read on

Peewee Bashers have made the final four of the Shelburne County League Peewee House Championship being hosted (extremely well, organized and awesome) by Clark's Harbour Minor Baseball. A rare nine team tournament to start with, a complicated (but well thought out) schedule has seen action all weekend long. For Basher Nation's team, the Peewees opened with a 10-5 loss to Clark's Harbour #1: a good game played by both teams, MVP for the Bashers was BIG JOE with a hit and a spectacular catch in his right field. Scattered hitting througout the lineup, with two RBIs from Jeremy early on, the team couldn't recover from some errors.

Bouncing back, the team pounded out 19 runs in a 5 inning game against the Liverpool Privateers (not sure what team, number one or number two, but it is not matter considering the next result)...One of my reliable fans told me that the team hit the ball well all day and were lead on the mound by "Smooth" Dougie Poole on the mound with at least 9 punchouts of Privateers players. Missing one of their coaches all day (Tommy Jacklyn, busy potentially saving lives all day), Leon (pulled away from his own Shelburne Softball Championship in Shelburne, a league he started from the basement up, creating the first recreation lobball league in the town and surrounding area in a number of years) and impromptu First Base Coach John Bradley and Statman Shane Blinkhorn, the team huddled in expecting to be bumped out of Championship contention.

However, with so many games and so many tie breakers in play , the Bashers finished first, and played against the other Liverpool Privateer team in the second round of the Championship Round. Jumping to an early 6-1 lead in the first two innings, the team continued its aggressive base running, peppered with timely hitting (Keaton, Evan, Anthony, Joe, Colin, Matthew, all the boys with good contact tonight with both of the other team's aces), the team rode Colin Bradley (GAME MVP)to the win as the BASHER ACE wrapped up an impressive first year pitching in Peewee... All of his stats will be inputted at season's end, but I am pretty sure you got your 100 strikeouts kid!!!!!Two Homeruns for sure, including the big crank in the team's big win at provincials versus the GOLD MEDAL WINNING INVERNESS TEAM (the only defeat the Peewee R Provincial Championship Banner Team. suffered in Creignish). To clarify, Colin has maxed out innings on the mound, and unless the parents are brave enough to stand in there against Colin, his pitching statistics are done and set.

The Peewee Bashes will now play against the Woods Harbour Navigators (Paul's Team) in one semi final (game time is 12:30pm, players should be there early to make sure they catch some of the first game between the Clark's Harbour Foggies and the Woods Harbour Navigators (Craig's team) which starts at 10:OO am at the main Clark's Harbour Ballfield.

With the webmaster in the mood to write for the first time in a long time (and with the time to do it, remembering that I did not take the lap top to Provincials in Cape Breton, just the camera), I will be bringing up the Peewee R Provincials, (and the others as well, after the season is over) and inputting information about the tournament. Information has been blatently ripped from the Inverness Oran (the local newspaper in the area) in regards to other games. The full stats (from the officials scorebook) will be inputted after the season is over. Pictures from the mosquito Championship were forwarded to the Coast Guard for this week's paper. Look for the massive updates to follow.

12noon Auto Parts Bashers LOSE TO Liverpool #1

Quick note from a parent I happened upon was that the team played really well and were leading for the majority of the game: some unlucky bounces and timely hits by the Liverpool squad turned the tide their way and they never looked back

2pm Foggies #1 DEFEAT Auto Parts Bashers

The overall number one seed in the Rookie Championship Tournament continued their success with a win over the local team in the second game for both teams on the day. With a number of experienced, well travelled players on the Foggie Squad, the team simply overpowered the much younger Auto Parts Team in this round robin game. The webmaster would like to take this time to acknowledge the Senior Rookie Players (most on this team, coached by Mr. Hunt I believe, and a few scattered on the other two Foggies Teams) for their outstanding play around the province this year, including thier big win in Fall River (an annual event in that area with tough competition).

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR....Did I scare You
The site continues to trim down as Provincials nears. All the schedules are online in the approriate section. Peewee Bashers have a solid practice today at the Complex. Tied at 10 hits a piece I hear Dougie, Jesse and Jeremy...Good work boys!!!! Tons of people out for the rebirth of the Bowood Field and a great game by the Shelburne Auto Parts Rookies and the Goulden Shell Rookies. The field looked great, thanks to the efforts of the Bowood Staff, Shelburne Basher Volunteers (who put together a bleacher bench and erected the fence behind the backstop, lined the field, raked the field): with such a great day at the field, games for the Year Ending Rookie Championship will not split time between the Bowood Field and Grovestine Complex.

A huge shout out to all of our sponsors and all the people who help us and encourage us along the way, including Uncle Sid's Variety Store (right next to Tim Horton's, can't miss it) who gave out free ice creams to all of the Bashers to celebrate a successful season by both teams in 2007. You will notice that the Sponsors Page still remains on this webiste: travelling from town to town, field to field, our teams have looked great in their uniforms. Your foundational support of our SAMBA teams is greatly appreciated by all of us in Basher Nation.

I will be spending the next little while adding a few things here and there. The online poll will be active for twenty four more hours. The next 24 hours will be full of things on the website. Not only does the race to win Round Two of the Championship Poll continue, but our Phat Friend Santa will be coming to town within the next 24 hours. This will be the last chance to qualify for the Christmas in August Contest. We will be looking for the fifth email this time, (no matter when Santa arrives, email the webmaster to try to win...I have never received more than four emails doing this contest, and that took 14 hours). Ryan Hardy just missed last time. Mr. Hardy, make sure you try again.

In addition, even though I could input the Stats for the Mosquito and Peewee Stat Tracker kids before the weekend, I will be holding off until provincals are over. With the Provinical Banner at stake, I will favour our Basher Teams and withhold the information for now. Sorry to those visiting from other places hoping to get some information on your competition. No hard feelings: just doing my part to help the team

The website will be trimming down its options over the next 48 hours, eventually leaving only the main links for the weekend so that all of you surfing by looking for results will be able to find them as easy as possible. I will also be trying to arrange for a couple of people to help me input the stats from all three championships this weekend as they happen. I will be in Cape Breton with the Peewees and will update immediately after the conclusion of each game. The same will be set up in Shelburne (easy to do) and one in Halifax (probably one of my family to make it easy). Expect an update on this plan of action over the next 24 hours.

For now, enjoy the recent news that can be accessed with the Link at the Top Right Hand Corner of the Welcome Page. Provincials are not days away: they are hours away. R U Ready Basher Nation? Can you feel it?

Still looking for the best picture of the Bashers Girls that is available to be featured in the Coast Guard Sports section. With such a wonderful first year, I think a nice little wrap up piece in the local paper is well deserved. I know that the Peewee Boys will be putting something in, as well as the Mosquitos I imagine, so anyone out there who wants to pen the tale of this most awesome team (in less than 500 words), email me or at least let me know that you are going to send something to the newspaper.

Scotiabank Mosquito Bashers lose both games against the Kentville Mosquito A team on Saturday night 14-3 (I think) and 19-8. Missing five starters, (who were away for the weekend) and fielding two rookie aged players, the team did its best in this double header exhibition tilt. Just days away from the big RATED R PROVINCIALS in Shelburne, the build up to this provincial championship continues to build. Anyone with any questions or inquiries, please make sure to contact President/Head Coach Roddy Conrad at the contacts provided in our Contact List to find out all the information you will need for the big weekend.

Peewee Bashers loose an exhibtion game against the Woods Harbour Navigators 14-8 in a three hour and 15 minute game. The boys will now practice on Tuesday @ 1:00pm at the Complex Field in preparation for the big provincial weekend in Creignish. An effort will be made by the webmaster to keep checking the Baseball Nova Scotia website to make sure the schedule for the weekend in online here at Basher Central as soon as possible. A 5 team, roud robin tournament, the Bashers are all excited about this year's chase for the Provincial Banner on the Island.

Championship Poll to be online for another 48 hours before it is pulled off the site. Great to see so many people voting: it is always interesting to see how you, the internet visitor, see things. Polled Article to be online soon, maybe even by Monday morning if all goes well. Make sure you pick up the Coast Guard tomorrow to see some of the Bashers best immortalized in Black and White. In other news, Janet Bradley is the fourth entry into the Christmas in August contest. Look for another chance to enter the contest, the last chance, sometime this week. On my way to the last Peewee exhibition warm-up game before the big provincials this weekend. Read on to see what is up with Basher Nation today.

ALL NEW COUNTDOWN CLOCK NOW ONLINE...click on RATED R PROVINCIALS to check it out. Click on the Text Link on the Countdown Page to see the full schedule for this year's Mosquito R Provincials being held in Shelburne at the Grovestine's Recreation Complex and Ballfield. For any teams visiting the site for the first time, click on the Surfing Around Link to find some useful links like local weather and local town websites telling you all about our town and its many things to do!!!!

Full Bantam R Provincials are now online...click on the Bantam Provincials link on the Menu bar to see when the Bashers hit the field in the big city. There is also a brief discussion about the Tournament Format being used for this year ending tournament: it will be interesting to see how this works out this year. Depending on its success, Baseball Nova Scotia may have found a better way to decide who hoists the illusive Banner at the end of the day.

Still waiting for the Peewee R Provincial picture to come into focus. With any luck, the city region was able to get their district playdowns in so the final schedule can be published. The Peewees will hit the field tomorrow for a practice as they continue to ready themselves for their journey to Cape Breton Island and the small town of Creignish. I, personally, can't wait!!!

As always, the most talked about baseball website on the net in Nova Scotia, the home of Basher Central continuing to stay innovative and fresh as the season hits its climax. The webmaster would like to throw out a huge thank you to Bridget for saving me in relation to the upcoming edition of the Coast Guard newspaper. If it wasn't for her double checking that the picture of our Peewees was going to be printed this week, we all would have missed having our beautiful children in the paper. Thanks again!!!

With big championships next weekend for three Basher teams, look for this site to continue to bring you new stuff, including some of the particulars mentioned below. Also, look for some exciting coverage of the Bowood Open House on Tuesday and the main event of the evening, (Bashers VS Bashers one more time), which will mark the beginning of the Bowood Field era in Shelburne. A positive development for Shelburne as a whole, the new field will allow the Association to expand its programs and ensure adequate field times for the ever growing Basher Nation. With the sport's popularity taking off, the new field is heaven sent. See ya all there, peeps!!!

Bashers VS Bashers on Friday night @ the Complex

Under the lights and covered in fog!!!!

The game was extremely close, with the Auto Parts jumping out early by 3 runs with great hitting and base running by the team. Each Basher Team then settled down and picked away at the score, scoring a run here and there until the Goulden Shell Bashers poured in 5 runs to tie the game going into the last inning. The Auto Parts took the lead by one in their half, setting up for an exciting end to the game. A big hit by Blake started the rally, followed by Andrew and Ryan getting on base. With the game tied, Dru Jacklyn was able to sneak an infield base hit, scoring Andy with the winning run. A great game by all, both teams head into the year ending tournament with their eyes set on winning the League Title. If you missed us tonight, make sure to stop by the ever developing Bowood Field @ Bowood (former Youth Centre) to cheer on these same two teams again as they highlight the Open House scheduled on Tuesday evening. Remember that these two teams and the Town of Shelburne will host not only the RATED R PROVINCIALS on Labour Day Weekend but will host the Rookie Championship in the month of September. Always something going on somewhere, there are Bashers everywhere, bashing in ball parks near you.

A great turnout for the dance at the Sandy Point Lighthouse in Sandy Point, (the best lighthouse on the South Shore if I may sneak in some opinion on this issue :)): the Peewee R Boys will now spend the next week readying themselves for the big tournament in Creignish, Cape Breton. All the boys, parents, coaches, and supporters would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to all of those who supported this and all the levels of ball who asked for your generosity this year. With three teams making a run at banners this year, the teams would be lost without your constant support!!!!

Major updates to the schedules for the Mosquito tournament and the Bantam Provincials Tournaments are forthcoming soon. If you can't wait, take a surf on over to Baseball Nova Scotia's website, click on Tournament, Provincials and Mosquito R or Bantam R for the complete schedules. Peewee schedule still to follow. The Metro Region is still trying to get their playdowns in: apparently rained out today, we will pop up the sun at the top of this page to encourage Mr. Sunshine to come out tomorrow. Some of the news from below has been moved to the Basher News Archive Section. Check back often over the weekend for major updates and, hopefully, all new features!!!!!!

Some updates underway: the menu tags stating updates are correct: Jerry Peterson Expose now online in Coach Corner; tiny update to NSSAF Provincial Menu, added pages for the Peewee and Bantam Run to Provincials. More information to follow as soon as possible. Any empty menus will be filled soon, including the Polled Piece and another discussing the return of Men's Baseball in the Town of Shelburne!!!! Pink Dressing on the site is the webmaster's quick shout out to the Basher girls who made everyone so proud this year. GRRREAT WORK: do you girls play in the winter?????(((((Winter....could Santa be coming soon, ummmmm...like maybe as part of an online contest!!!!)))))

The Metro Portion of the Peewee R District Playdowns are still to be played. Prospect advances from the Valley/Metro area with no team coming from the Fundy. If my memory serves me correctly, Inverness has won the Cape Breton area and will also be travelling to provincials. As stated before, more updates to follow.

Some games have been entered into the schedule below, including two games between the two Shelburne Rookie teams (one on Friday under the lights at the Complex, the other at the NEW Bowood Field next Tuesday as part of the MacDonnell Group's Open House to promote the facility) and a double header between the Mosquito Bashers and the Kentville Wildcats this Saturday. The Goulden Shell Bashers continue to play well, winning 8-3 last night in Clark's Harbour against Clark's Harbour #2. By my calculation, the Goulden Shell Bashers finish as the second best team in the league and should have a favorable robin round portion of the year end tournament that takes place the week after Labour Day Weekend in Shelburne. Should be interesting.

An update on the Mosquito Rated R Provincials sees the Eastern Passage Sharks claiming the Metro District, Woods Harbour claiming the South, Springhill with the automatic bid from thier district, and we are still waiting on the results of the Cape Breton Playdowns. Now only days away, the Mosquitos will tune up this weekend with the Wildcats before the big Dance on Labour Day Weekend. As stated on this website, the Bantams go to Humber Park and the Peewees go to Cape Breton the same weekend to chase their own Provinvial banners. On a side note, I would like to say hey to everyone who came out to see what all the commotion was when the Peewees and their parents caravaned their way through Shelburne after their big win on Sunday beeping their horns. The boys were very proud of their victory and wanted to let everyone know about it. Way to go.

Stats for Jeremy and Colin (Peewee Stat Tracker kids) will be inputted soon! I have been too busy to get the time to put them in. I will also have the Mosquito Scorebook soon to input some of the Mosquito stats, as well as the GS Scorebook to catch up on the Rookies. Stay tuned! The remaining news below is recent so take a look to see what is going down in Basher Nation!

The games have been played and the dust has settled: and standing on top of the South District Peewee R Mountain is our Shelburne Bashers who survived the 10-9 Extra Inning loss in Game Two of the Series to soundly defeat the Woods Harbour Navigatos 17-5 in the third and deciding game. With great determination and all eyes on the prize, the team came together to pull out the win. Aggressive out of the gate, the team jumped to an early lead and never looked back. Keaton Hiltz pitched a solid three innings (giving up only three runs), leaving Douglas Poole with a 7-3 lead going into the fourth inning. The Bashers wanted to win this one, and decided to take control of the game with two back to back 5 run innings in the fifth and sixth, highlighted by Colin Bradley's fourth big hit of the game, (Colin finished 4/4 with three doubles and a triple, all on a swollen foot). Look for a longer piece about this weekend for the Peewees and their big win over the next few hours. I, the webmaster, am going to enjoy the rest of the day with my own Peewee Basher. Cape Breton, R U READY?????

Despite all the Rain and Thunderstorms, the series is now over. Winning the first game 11-5, losing the second 10-9 (Extra innings) and then the impressive do or die win described above, the team is headed to provincials. As part of this day of celebration, the new poll is now online. With three teams headed to provincials this year, the question is, which team has the best chance to win the whole thing. I have thrown the Rookies into the mix as well due to the rescheduling of their Shelburne County League Tournament to the second weekend in September. Have fun voting, peeps!!!!

Christmas in August Contest will have its last phase sometime between now and Provincials. Read the menu option on the side to see what is up with the contest and to meet our first three qualifiers.

Still waiting on a few coaches and their Coach Corner pieces. If you have one ready for Basher Nation, don't be shy, send it through. The fans love that stuff. It's part of what makes our website special for all who surf by and see what is up with Basher Nation from time to time. With Provincials so close now, let's turn up the volume on the website and kick Basher Nation into Championship mode.

It is crazy to think that this Basher Tidal wave started innocently enough: with one team called the Thrashers a couple of years ago, our President picked the name Bashers for a second team. Now, months removed from that decision so long ago, Basher Nation has almost completely taken over our small fishing town. I remember when we fired up this season and the discussions I had with other parents and friends about the growth of the sport, and, eventually, about the possibility of Men's Baseball making a return to the area. Would the Loyalists return??? Now, the word Loyalists doesn't really seem to fit anymore, like it is trapped in the past from which it came. Somewhere, SAMBA and its many teams evolved, transforming into a new breed of Association: we Bash now, and we shall Bash forever. Bashers Bashers everywhere, and they just won't go away. GO BASHERS GO!!!!

    OLDER NEWS
The Squirt Girls Championship started on Thursday night before the massive attack of Thunderstorms that rocked pretty much everybody around these parts late last night. An email has been sent to a few interested parties to get the final scores of both games: our host Shelburne Bashers lost to the league's top team from Barrington in the second game of the double header. The Squirt Girls followed with another solid effort on Saturday, losing to Clark's Harbour to drop their record to 0-2. The Girls will have another game on Sunday, (or maybe they got it in yesterday, but I doubt it) in the round robin portion of this tournament.

Peewee Boys defeat the Woods Harbour Navigators 10-5 to take a one to nothing lead in the Best of Three Series for the South District Title. Led by Colin Bradley and Doug Poole from the mound and hits scattered up and down the line up, the team grabbed the lead early and slowly increased it to their final margin of victory. Now one win away from the South District Title (which means they can punch their ticket to Cape Breton to participate in the Rated R Peewee Provincials), the team will hit the field tomorrow morning @ 10:00 am in Game Two of the series against the Navigators. Provincials for the Peewees will take place on Labour Day Weekend, the same weekend that the Bantams travel to Humber Park and our Mosquitos host the Rated R Mosquito Championship for the second year in a row!!!! Good luck to Joseph, Keaton, Jesse, Matthew, Brandon, and all the boys on Saturday. If you miss the game, check back here for complete coverage tomorrow evening, hopefully complete with stats from the complete South District Playdown.

The Goulden Shell Bashers defeat Clark's Harbour Foggies #2 16-6 at the Ohio Ballfield. The webmaster missed this game, and does not have the stats as of yet. I am going to have to see the coach Mr. Peterson to get his book and input them in. Plus Jerry owes me a Coach Corner piece to go along with the Roddy and Todd articles. Stay tuned.

The wish poll now online will end on Sunday evening...shortly thereafter the Polled Menu Option will become active for all to check out. Remember to watch for Santa over the next week during the last phase of our online contest called Christmas in August...Good luck to you all, and as always, please, come again, sign our guest book ,email us anytime, and send us any pics you want posted. Take care.

The Goulden Shell Rookie Bashers defeat the Clark's Harbour Foggies (#3) 5-4 in a close game at the Complex Field on Wednesday night. Didn't keep the stats, however, it looked like Dru and Avery led the team with the bats and the whole team played well in the field, catching popups, turning double plays etc. Good work by this team. No news on how the Auto Parts Bashers did. I will update once I receive some new information.

Mr. Colin Bradley can now go into Stat Tracker to see his homerun. My apologies for taking so long, however, I do not have the actual stats for this game as of yet. However, I have inputted what I have been told to be the hitting stats for Jeremy and Colin so go and take a look if you want. In relation to the Goulden Shell Basher win last night, those stats will not be online until sometime this weekend.

The Shelburne County League Championship for the Rookie Division, slated for August 24th - August 26th, has been cancelled and moved to a later date of September 8th here in Shelburne. Clark's Harbour teams and Liverpool teams cannot field their rookie squads on this weekend due to too many players being away on this weekend.

Be all and end all is that the Rookies will not finish their season until school begins!

The remaining news is older news from the last 4 days. Read if you haven't been here for awhile...enjoy the bubbles and the dancing baby...4000 internet heads bashed and counting!!!!!!

BV Peewee Bashers lose a close game in Woods Harbour against the Navigators 8-7. In a warmup before the big weekend of action at the Complex in their Best of 3 District Series(Friday evening, Saturday morning), the team played well in the "bit chilly" weather. After a long hiatus, the squad looks ready for the challenge that lay ahead. With the other two Shelburne teams eligible for Provincials already in with automatic bids, it is only the peewees that will battle for the right to "Go to the Show". The team will meet again for one last time at the BRAND SPANKING NEWLY RENOVATED Boys School Ball Field, (on site at Shelburne Place) for a practice the night before the big series gets underway. Read below to find out more information on the recent developments on the reestablishment of this ball field as one of the main fields in Shelburne.

However, at this time, the webmaster will have to deal with another pressing matter.

For those kids who have taken part in our Stat Tracker feature this year, they all know that I will not give them a Home Run on the stat sheet unless it is true and error free. For those kids in Rookie, they hit so many home runs that it doesn't really matter. However, for the Peewee kids, a homerun basically means a perfectly hit ball down the line that rolls forever and some fast feet, cross your fingers and run like the wind. For Mr. Colin Bradley, he had an in the park homerun, however, it was assisted by an error. He wanted the stat so bad. Just wanted that homerun.

So you can imagine my surprise when my son, and his fellow teammate, arrives home from the game in Woods Harbour speaking of a homerun. True and far and unquestionable, Mr. Bradley put it over the fence to make sure that I couldn't question the authenticity of the hit. No errors, no guesswork. So congrats to Mr. Bradley on his awesome hit: it is a nice garnish to the excellent first year in Peewee you are having this year. Good luck to you and the team as they take on the Navigators this weekend with everything on the line.

I have moved some information into Menu events. First three qualifiers for the Christmas in August Online contest are Bill Camp, K. Grouse, and Heidi Wagner. There are still two spots left. Santa, snowflakes and all that glorious Christmas music will be on this site sometime within the next 7 days. This time, I will be taking the first two people who email me as the final two qualifiers. Good luck to all.

Scrolling down this page you will still find the Squirt Girls and their awesome float and some of the main events that will be taking place over the next 3 weekends. Read on to see what is up.

The Old Boys School field has undergone some massive improvements over the last week thanks to the generous support of a fine business man (I will check to make sure he doesn't mind me putting his name on the website) and the MacDonnell group which chipped in financial support for the beautification of the field. Amazingly enough, the field is ready to go with teams now able to book time for practices and the distinct possibility of the two Rookie teams battling onsite in an exhibition game really soon. Look for more details to follow. As mentioned in the menu option concerning this field, SAMBA will work closely with the new owners of the property to help maximize the potential benefit of this site to the community, and more specifically, to our children. Great work by everybody involved to get this together so quickly. Just plain fantastic!!!!!

I have left the main events list below for all to take a look at. The big weekend for the Squirt Girls and Peewee Boys is almost here. Make sure you come out to support these two teams this weekend as the Girls look to win their first Shelburne County League Championship and the Peewee Boys look to punch their ticket to provincials at the end of the month.

    AUGUST 17-19th @ Complex Field

Woods Harbour VS Shelburne (Peewee R District Playdowns)

Best 2 out of 3 series for the Right to Go to Provincials

Hosted this year by Creignish in Cape Bretion.

Shelburne County Squirt Girls League Championship

4 Team House League Tournament hosted By the Bashers

The finale of a very successful season for our Lady Bashers

    August 31st - September 2nd

    RATED R PROVINCIALS - Mosquito R Provincials

Hosted by SAMBA and Scotiabank Mosquito Bashers

Teams to be determined through district playdowns

Make sure all you fans out there wear pink or blue to the games for the Squirt Girls Championship and Peewees Playdowns. Come support our young boys and girls as they compete against the Navigators, the Foggies and the league. Lets see if we can start a sea of blue and pink on this weekend. The Peewee boys open up the weekend on Friday night in the first game of their elimination playoff vs the Woods Harbour Navigators. The Peewee Series will continue Saturday along side the Squirt Girls Championship which will fire up on Saturday morning. Should be a great weekend. Bring your change to grab a baseball hotdog and pop. Can't beat it. Not anywhere!

Hope you enjoy the new Quick Hit Menu options: an effort will be made to add to these as we move forward. In addition, a new Menu Link for each team going into their hosting duties with a league championship will be added. The Squirt Bashers, or Lady Bashers, or Bash (That's what I would call them, the Shelburne Bash, with pink uniforms with blue trim.) will be the first team to host our county. It should be fun... the host girls have competed hard and evenly with all teams in the league: the tournament is wide open as the four teams come together one last time for the league championship.

Lots of games on Sunday for tons of teams...Ball School again on Monday, close to wrapping up and winding down. Kudos to Roddy Conrad for all of his tireless efforts to run this program for the 30 kids who have come out this season to learn and have fun playing baseball. The very foundation of our Baseball program, the numbers in this youngest age group is a very encouraging sign for the SAMBA program in general. Great work everybody.

    .

Older news from the last week has been moved to Basher Archives. An effort will be made to clean up the more than 10 spelling trainwrecks I have surfed on this morning. I have a tendency to type extremely fast and sometimes miss some pretty big ones. Menu Options - Officials and Field Locations have been temporarily been closed down to allow for some other newer Menu Options, including some information about NSSAF Provincials with the Barrington Barons, Coach Corner with some neat information on some of our coaches, Christmas in August Contest that is now running for all online surfers to qualify for, and the upcoming feature called POLLED, detailing what we have learned about Basher Nation throughout the season through the many votes cast by you in our many polls. Newest poll now online following the Wish theme again, with all new choices to choose from.

The original WISH poll had some interesting choices, each which has had developments since they were first proposed on the site. SAMBA bought a brand new equipment bag full of new equipment and dispersed it amoung all the teams. For all the new catcher's gear, bats and balls, etc., the Association delivered on making sure that our teams were all geared up and ready to bash in 2007.The first poll also touched on travelling to the city for a tournament, which the GS Bashers did when they went to Hammonds Plains and the Bantams will be doing at Humber Park for Provincials. Well travelled our team is. Mosquitos attended Yarmouth Seafest for the second year in a row and the Peewees are chasing their own Cape Breton Destiny, so that wish kinda came true. We have had a pitching clinic (maybe we should do it again this year, I heard it was absolutely terrific) but no batting clinic, plus we lost our Pitching Machine to Technical Difficulties. Hope you like the new WISH poll!!!! But is there a wonderful and magical night ahead of us. The highest ranking choice was the Basher Banquet for all to celebrate the season. Ummmmmm.....hr>

Hope everyone is ready for the Big Exhibition this week. Should be lots of fun. Make sure you stop by and see all of the Bashers and their parents at the Canteen in the Arena throughout the 5 day event in Shelburne. A blast everytime, hope all the Bashers have a wonderful time at the BIG EX this year. Remember to pack your carrots and cucumber boys and girls to stay energetic all day. Drink plenty of water and avoid junk food to stay hydrated.

If you want to know just how Provinicials and District playdowns are set up, click on the RATED R PROVINCIAL LINK to see all the teams looking to wear the 2007 crown, colored in this aqua shade for you to find easy. The information there gives details on all the teams who are vying for the Mosquito, Peewee, and Bantam Provincials. In direct relation to our Basher program, only the Belliveau Veinotte Peewees will have to fight their way through the District Playdown in a BEST 2 out of 3 Series on August 17th and 18th here in Shelburne against the Woods Harbour Navigators. Shelburne Ship Repair Bantams have received the automatic bye to provincials being the only team registered at this level in this region and will travel to Humber Park for their Championship on Labour Day Weekend. And of course, we all know that the return of the Rated R Provincials here in Shelburne is getting closer and closer. Big tournaments still coming up with the Squirt Girls Shelburne County League Championships being hosted by Basher Nation on August 17th, 18th, 19th here in Shelburne followed by the Rookie League Championships shortly thereafter. Scotiabank Ball Schoolers, where you at?????????????

An update on the Boys School Field Restoration has the plans to rebuild the field put on hold until next Spring. SAMBA will be working closely with the MacDonnell Group over the winter to maximize the full potential of this once lost field. With the many changes in our town over the last twenty years, Shelburne and area has slowly lost some of its most important sporting facilities, such as this field and the old field at the CFS Shelburne Location. Having one field brought up to code again will help to alleviate this year's problem of finding and booking field time for the older teams. If all goes well and this new field is Bantam sized complete with all the garnishings, all the new players who have expressed interest into joining the more than 140 BASHERS who are rocking hard this year when the 2008 season hits new year will be easily added to our growing player base. All of the players and coaches should be very proud of themselves. Without all of you supporting our many teams and allowing the children to be successful in a safe nurturing environment, we wouldn't have all of this interest from boys and girls all around the town who don't want to miss out on the show next year. When this is coupled with the downswing in baseball in the Barrington and Lockeport area, it is possible that the total number of kids may top 200 in 2008.

With another successful tournament in the books for the Shelburne Area Minor Baseball Association (REFERRING TO THE MOSQUITO TOURNAMENT JUST HELD THIS WEEKEND, HOSTED BY THE SCOTIA BANK BASHERS.), the webmaster would like to take this time to congratulate SAMBA and its many volunteers for their continued dedication to our baseball program. As many residents of the town should notice, the tournaments and events being hosted by the Shelburne Basher program is contributing to the basic economical success of the town during the summer. With teams camping, staying in hotels, shopping, and eating at our many great restaurants and cafes, SAMBA events have paid dividends for all involved. With a very limited number of provincial events being held in our area, the success of the organization to secure big time events, big league teams, etc. is quickly making us one of the hottest associations in the province today. So remember, fly bites, sun burns, cracked windshields, and the standard sun beam to the eyes during games is a small price to pay for helping to keep this ship ahead of the pack.

The Peewee Bashers have continued to spend their downtime fundraising for their team: with great numbers on recent events and two more fundraisers to come, the boys are working hard to secure the additional funding needed at times to maintain the programming provided by our Association. The boys will be on the field again soon, so make sure you check the calendar below to see when they hit the field again. Personally, I can't wait to see Anthony hit the field again after his month long hiatus. Wish we could see Shawn back again patrolling the field, however, young Thornton will be taking time off to nurse the injury back into shape. This seems like a good time to remind all of you players out there that it is very important to tell your coaches if you hurt yourself at any time during the game. Make sure they know so they can help to make sure you are okay to play and are free from causing more damage to an injury. Trust me: prevention and immediate care are key to making sure you are ready to go on game day.

    NEWS AUGUST 6th, 2007
Squirt Girls win again in Woods Harbour 15-13 in a makeup game...I will be trying to get these into the Game Results section so the season records will be truly accurate and reflective.

Results for Mosquito Tournament immediately below quick hits. Top three sellers for the Sportscape Draw were Daniel Slack 15 books, Ryan Hardy 10 books, Dylan Christie 4 books. For their hard work Daniel&Ryan won $60 each off at Gosbee's and Dylan will be sporting a new Basher jacket. After all is said and done we made over $1300 clear. Way to go boys & girls.

Quick hits include the GS Rookies losing to Clark's Harbour today at the Ohio Field 13-6. Falling behind 9-1 in the first 3 innings, the Shelburne team beat the Foggies 5-4 in the last three innings but could not overcome the early hole they dug for themselves on this hot afternoon. The webmaster would like to extend a big WOW to this Foggies team on their excellent fielding and play making during this game. Great job. The future of your program from a players standpoint looks pretty solid. Great job in the outfield, super kid, you were awesome!!!!!!!!! Stats for this game will be online in a timely manner, hopefully tonight.

    OLDER NEWS (Aug. 2nd, 2007)
ANY OF YOU WHO ARE LOOKING TO CHECK OUT THE PAST UPDATES ON THIS SITE ON THE BASHER NEWS SECTION, MY APOLOGIES, AS IT IS GONE! TRYING TO DO SOME MAINTENANCE OF THE SITE, THE ENTIRE 28 PAGES OF UPDATES THAT HAVE BEEN ON THIS SITE SINCE WE STARTED ARE NOW GONE. A BIT FRUSTRATED, THE MONIES RAISED TO HELP BUY THE WEBSITE (NOT NEARLY ENOUGH AT THIS POINT) WILL BE PUT TOWARDS THE COST OF BUYING THIS WEBSITE SOON WITH OTHER ALLOTTED MONIES TO KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING IN THE FUTURE.

The Mosquito Bashers defeat Clark's Harbour #1 in Clark's Harbour 10-8 on Thursday night. All tuned up, the team will now ready themselves to host their home tournament Saturday and Sunday. Top hitters for the Mosquito Bashers were Scotty (2 Doubles, Single), Lucas (2 singles and a double), and Desmond with three singles. Good work boys. Keep it up. For the three kids who have shown interest in Stat Tracker, the webmaster will be picking up the Score Sheets following the weekend to get those numbers of the website for all to see.

The Goulden Shell Bashers defeat the Woods Harbour Navigators at the Fly Dome on Thursday night: amazingly, to this fan of the Rookies who spends quite a bit of time at the Ohio Field, the flies were not bad. In truth, the flies haven't really been that bad all year. Maybe we should call it the SOMETIME FLY DOME, eh! The core group on this team is enjoying a very successful season this year, having won 10 games already compared to the three they racked up all last year. The team will next play on Sunday @ 1:00pm at the SOMETIME FLY DOME. Hope to see you all there on a lazy Sunday afternoon enjoying some little ones bashing balls all over the park.

Scotiabank Squirt Girls WIN again, 18-17 in EXTRA INNINGS, with Ally smashing a HOMERUN and Megan Perry adding another for good measure. If you haven't been to a Squirt Girls game, you are really missing something. When they get into defensive stance in the field, they look like professionals. Way to Go Girls...Keep it up!!!! The League Championship is right around the corner.
Remember that the Goulden Shell Bashers have a game tonight @ 6:30 in Ohio, the Peewees practice at the Complex. Mosquito Bashers will be in Clark's Harbour tonight looking to continue their excellent season. Read on if you haven't been here for awhile. Tons of information below for you to check out!

Caught some of the Squirt Girls this evening, (July 31st, 2007) and it was AWESOME...this young team is really fun to watch, developing at the plate as hitters and on point in relation to their fielding and positioning, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this team...pretty sure it was Claire who hit the Home Run, but I am sure that someone will let me know how it all turned out. Great job by the coaches and the many, many fans who turned out this evening, and to make an assumption, have been there filling the bleachers for every game the Lady Bashers have played. With Shelburne hosting the Shelburne County League Championship in Shelburne in the middle of August, the positive promotion and development of our Girls program will continue throughout the duration of the season. Shelburne Area Minor Baseball Association is incredibly excited with the current success of this new 2007 Basher squad. With such a young, varied age group represented on the team, this contingent will remain intact to compete at the same level last year. Hugged by volunteers working canteens, running practices, driving players to and fro, and doing all the little things required to maintain the team.

PEEWEE BASHERS have been active during their hiatus from gameplay, practicing as usual, (with a practice tomorrow, Wednesday @ 1 at the Complex), and working hard to fundraise with their bottle drive. Started on Saturday and ongoing as of this update on Tuesday evening, (with Sandy Point still being swept by some Bashers this evening). Many of the same parents who were the backbone of last years RATED R PROVINCIALS continue to step up and lead the charge in making our program the best it can be. Remember to come and support the team on the weekend of August 18th as they battle the Woods Harbour Navigators for the right to travel to Cape Breton for Provincials on Labour Day Weekend. All the boys will be hitting the diamond today (WED @ 1pm) and tomorrow to get ready for their next game.

Minor information added to the paragraphs below, including an update to the Pile of Dirt mystery which reveals the truth behind the refererence made on this site over 7 days ago. Hope all of you interested peoples have read far enough down the page to find this paragraph and its directions to the bottom of the page for the answer to the big question. Though not directly related to the Shelburne Area Minor Baseball Association, SAMBA will be involved as it has been since the beginning to lend any help and support to the efforts of the interested parties.

    BANTAM BASHERS TOURNAMENT FINAL GAMES
PLAYED AT THE COMPLEX FIELD, SUNDAY, JULY 29
GOLD MEDAL GAME sees the Clark's Harbour Foggies capture the Gold Medals at the Shelburne Bantam Bashers Invitational Tournament, defeating Woods Harbour to claim the tournament win. BRONZE MEDAL GAME sees the Liverpool Privateers defeat the home town Bashers to capture the bronze medal. UPDATE: No scores available as of yet in relation to this tournament played in Shelburne. the webmaster was out of town during the tournament but the information will be posted here when made available by the coaching staff or interested party involved with this team. Good job to all involved in running this event. Good luck to all teams as they ready themselves for thier respective runs at a Provincial Banner late this summer. I do have some additional results for the team that have not bee added to the site yet and will do my very best to get this done as soon as possible. As mentioned in previous updates, the team has an automatic bye to the Bantam House League Provinical Championship being held at the host Humber Park Hawks ballfields. Information on all Provincials can be found in the SURFING AROUND Link section of this website by clicking on the Baseball Nova Scotia website and checking out the available information. I hope to update our own link to the RATED R PROVINCIAL link available on this site: for anyone looking for information on where to stay and what to do in Shelburne on the Labour Day weekend, keep checking out our links to see what our town has to offer to the visiting player and their family and friends as they chase the elusive Banner. Who will stand as the King of the Mountain in 2007

A quick reminder to the Goulden Shell Bashers to be at the field in Ohio, our beloved FLY DOME, by 6pm on Thursday for the evening game against the Woods Harbour Navigators. Mere weeks from the year ending Shelburne County Rookie League Championship to be hosted by the Auto Parts/Goulden Shell Bashers on August 24, 26, both teams are readying for their own run at the championship, won last year by the Shelburne Spark Plugs in Clark's Harbour. R U Ready for Rookie Ball at its best?????

GOULDEN SHELL BASHERS finish 0-1-1 in the Hammonds Plains Tournament with the third game of the Tournament for the Bashers (vs the Host Hammonds Plains Athletics) cancelled due to rain. With the weather clearing up around noon in the city, Athletic volunteers were able to get the fields ready to wrap up the tournament on Sunday. The Bronze Medal Game saw the Bridgewater Bulldog Senior Rookie Team pounding the Humber Park Hawks 20-0. In the Gold Medal game, Hammonds Plains Windsor defeated Hammonds Plains van den Berg 16-14 in a close thrilling game between the two home teams. A big thank you to all the Hammonds Plains volunteers who worked so hard to make this tournament such a success.

Highlights from the Bashers trip to the BIG CITY included Nathaniel Brown ending the 0-13 start by the team in their opening game loss to the Humber Park Hawks 7-6(((THAT PITCHING MACHINE IS NO DARREN J))))), Avery and Drew going BACK TO BACK JACKS not once (in the first game), but twice with two mighty swings of the bat in the tie game against the Sackville Cardinals., and the all around play of the boys. The team is really developing and each player will learn and grow from this experience shared in Hammonds Plains. And, oh ya, that pitching machine better watch out. If it is smart, it will not pitch to any Bashers again. We got your number now. We are all over you like ants on a cupcake!

WAY TO GO DREW AND AVERY, OUR TWO GAME MOST VALUABLE PLAYER RECIPIENTS FOR THE TWO GAMES PLAYED IN HAMMONDS PLAIN. THE AWARDS ARE WELL DESERVED GENTLEMEN...KEEP UP THE OUTSTANDING PLAY!

Goulden Shell Bashers return home to Shelburne then travel to Clark's Harbour on Monday night, defeating the Foggies 10-3 with a solid effort by the 10 players who were able to make the game. A quick plug for the intelligence behind building our two Rookie Teams with 15 plus players each to make sure a full roster is available every time we hit the field without calling in players from other teams. Playing with 10 players tonight, the team was incredibly sharp in the field and solid at the plate. A double play by Ryan and a great game behind the plate for Brandon stand out for this fan of this team. Great work Brandon: you are really starting to look comfortable and in charge back there...GREAT STUFF, kid!. Stat Tracker has been updated for all you looking to see how your doing after tonight's big win against the Foggies, (and yes, for anyone who doesn't understand why the Foggies have that as their team name, the FOG, SHE WAS QUITE THICK TONIGHT...for a second there, I was pretty sure that Blake had been swallowed by the Fog and dragged back to sea. Creepy, eh???? Congrats to Ryan, Avery, and Drew, each going a perfect 4 for 4 for the Bashers in the win!

Last Thursday, the Mosquito Bashers defeated Lockeport Seacaps 8-3, led by Dylan Christie and Lane Conrad's combined 14 strikeouts to help keep the Bashers comfortable ahead of the opposition on this night. The boys are hosting a tournament this weekend...some more information concerning this is located below, so read on if you must.
