What is Baseball ?

The author of this remains anonymous, at his request. He is someone we all know. I am printing this with his permission because I feel it embodies what we all feel inside of ourselves about this game we play.

Baseball is a dirty game,
It is a game for cocky, disgusting, immature, dirtbags,
who don't know when to quit.
We think we can get any girl at the drop of a dime,
We dip and chew tobacco,
Are we really athletes ?
To the casual fan, baseball is merely standing around a diamond of dirt 90% of the time.
To you and I, it is a game of non stop explosive movements.
It is the single most difficult sport in the world.
We must perfect our craft each and every day with monotonous drills and repetition.
We have to come up big in tight situations after striking out in our last three at bats.
We have to strike someone out after walking the bases loaded.
There is no "I" in baseball.
Baseball is an individual team sport.
A group of individuals come together to form a roster.
A roster becomes a unit.
A unit becomes a team.
A team becomes a family.
We are all brothers.
Baseball defines comradery.
For a family to be successful, each member has to support each other,
physically and mentally.
Why do we play this game ?
For money ? For attention ?
Because your parents make you ? To stay out of trouble ? For fun ?
Whatever your reason, it doesn't matter.
At this point, we all have a common goal.
That goal is to win, to succeed.
Baseball is a screwed up game.
It is a game of failing repeatedly until you finally overcome that failure.... only to fail again.
So why do ever play ?
BECAUSE WE LOVE IT.
We love coming home covered in dirt and mud.
We love sliding into second head first.
We love hitting a ground ball to second to drive in our brother from third.
We love coming from behind, a 2-0 count , to strike someone out.
We love blocking a ball in the dirt when we're behind home plate and a runner is on third.
We hate losing, but we love the fact that we'll get back at it tomorrow.
We love the competition.
We love the thrill of victory.
To me, this is baseball.
