South vs Redondo
It was a beautiful day for a Friday ball game. The ocean breeze was flowing in from Redondo Beach and the temperature was perfect as South High was getting ready for a showdown with the Sea Hawks. South was coming in with a 1-1 record in the Woodbat and needed a victory to advance.
The Spartans coach Grady Sain made the decision to start the "big cat" Kevin Mc Mahon who splits his time this summer on the mound and taking snaps for South on the grid-iron. Mc Mahon gave Sain all he needed with 3 solid innings of giving up only 2 runs and allowing South to stay in the game and make their run at glory.
With Redondo up 2-1 in the 7th, South decided to make their run when Anthony Graham drew a walk. Up next was Michael Suey who laid his bat down for the bunt but proceded to beat it out. Up to the plate comes the team MVP in Ryan Carmona who doubles over the center fielders head in deep center to tie the game. That, Spartan fans was "clutch" !.
With Suey on third, Rex Calkins comes up and hits a shot out to the exact same spot as Carmona but the center fielder catchs it and it allows Suey to score the winning run. The Spartans score another run on a Redondo error to go up 4-2 in the 7th.
It must be mentioned that South did all this in the top of the 7th which means that they need to close it out in the bottom. Entering the game in the 4th inning was Ryan Cunningham. All he did was shut the Seahawks down for 4 innings and in the 7th struck out one and fielded a bunt attempt to give the Spartans the win.... Up next for the Spartans will be PV. Will the magic continue?
