Cardinals Complete Season Sweep of Eagles
After a scoreless 1st inning, the Cardinals offense blew the game open with a 10 run explosion in the 2nd. Jared Staton started the rally with a one out single. Then, Alex Mitchell knocked him in with a double to the left field wall to get the Cardinals rolling. The RBI leaders, with 2 each, were Dale Abraham, Zach Mitchell, and Brandon Schmidt. Leadoff hitter Donovan Mills went 3 for 3, and led the team with 4 stolen bases. Zach and Alex Mitchell both went 2 for 2, with a double and single each. The Cardinals used great defense to hold their 3rd opponent in a row scoreless. Pitcher Donovan Mills snagged a hard bouncer up the middle to retire the Eagles' Aaron for the final out of the 1st inning. Then, in the 2nd with runners on 1st and 2nd, shortstop Brandon Schmidt handled a hot grounder and threw to Jared Staton at 3rd to retire the side. With one out in the 3rd, second baseman Josh Sunwall stretched to make an incredible snag on a line drive off the bat of the Eagles' Anthony. Donovan Mills got his 4th complete game win of the season with a 5 strikeout performance. The Cardinals next game will be on the road Thursday at 7pm against the arch-rival Mudhens. The Thursday game will be the first of a tough stretch of 4 games in 6 days.
