South Western York Overwhelms Stewartstown With 18 Run Inning
Southwestern York erupted with 18 runs in the top of the 5th inning to crush Stewartstown's hopes of a monumental upset on their home field. Leading only 3-0 and being out hit by a 5-4 margin heading into the 5th, SW York paraded a seemingly endless 22 batters to the plate, yielding 18 runs on 8 hits and 9 walks. Stewartstown utilized 5 different pitchers in the inning, but all had difficulty finding the strike zone -- when they did SW York bats pounded the ball. Nick Wallin on the day had 3 hits, including a 2-RBI double in the 5th. Chris Prestridge also roped a 2-RBI double in the big 5th inning. Kurt Seiders walloped another home run. Final score: 22-1. SW York utilized the "Pitch-by-Committee" approach, where Dave Walker, Eric Moul, Evan Pickett, as well as usual position players Pat Shannon and Colin Porter each threw (1) inning during the game. Stewartstown's lone run came in the 5th and was unearned.
SW York is now 8 - 0 (league) and 8 - 3 (overall) and has sole possession of first-place in the league standings.
