MUSTANGS SEASON ENDS ON A SOUR NOTE - LOSE 8-7

May 17, 2014

On a beautiful day at the field of Centennial High School, the Mustangs looked to continue their playoff hopes playing the team from Desert Oasis. It was a game that would have its share of ups and downs for both teams.

As the game began, Desert Oasis didn't waste much time to get on the board. They hit a two run hr to take a 2-0 lead after the first inning. They kept up the pressure on the Mustangs, by scoring a run also in the second and third innings, to make the score 4-0.

Finally the Mustangs woke up their bats and were able to score 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth, and 3 more in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-4 lead. But in the game of baseball, you can never be sure of anything. Neither team scored in the sixth inning, so now we move on to the seventh, where a lot of unseen action is about ready to take place.

D.O.'s first batter reached base on an error, and that was followed by a walk, giving them runners at first and second with no outs. The next batter laid down a bunt, and on the play the ball gets thrown up the first base line, and both runners score and the batter goes to third. The next batter gets hit by a pitch, so runners are now at first and third, no outs. The next batter bunts and the runner at first moves to second. The next batter comes up and hits a double to score two more runs and D.O. takes an 8-6 lead.

Shadow was not ready to give up yet, as Jordan Hand lead of the bottom of the seventh with a single and Eric Jordan follows that with a single. Brady Hoskins then is asked to bunt the runners over and he does his job. Francisco Robles is walked, and the based are loaded with one out. The next batter strikes out, and the tension bulids. Tyler Burton gets a 1-2 count and then fouls two more pitches off, and then hits a shot threw the 5-6 hole to the left fielder who was playing shallow. The hit allowed Hand to score from third, but with the outfielder playing kind of shallow, it forced the base coach to hold Jordan, who looked like he would have been thrown out at the plate. Travis Caskie then came to the plate, and with a 2-2 count, the next pitch bounced in front of the catcher and then about 10 ft. to his right, Jordan saw daylight and started his sprint toward home. The catcher got to the ball, made a quick throw to the pitcher, and the call was made ...........  OUT !!!!!!!!  What???  The play could have been called SAFE just as easy, but it wasn't.  And the MUSTANGS season had come to an end.

It was an good season with a lot more ups than downs, and a lot of memories have been made.

It is now time for the Seniors to take it to the next level at college, or begin a career in the work place.

For the Freshmen, Sophmores, and Juniors, it is time to start getting ready for the 2014-2015 MUSTANG Season !!!!!!!!!!

GO  MUSTANGS !!!!!!!!!!     SEE YA AT THE FIELD !!!!!!!!!!
