Napa Valley Wine Country Classic 2010/August 28/29
The Stockton Stockton Storm FC 99 girls under 12 competed this weekend in the Napa Valley Wine Country Classic Soccer Tournament taking home the second place medals having gone undefeated for three games leading into the finals round.
During the first game the Storm defeated and shut out the Mustang Strikers 1-0 with the winning goal by Emilia Ruiz and assist by Salma Flores. In the second game the Storm held NVSC Salsa scoreless 2-0 with goals by Izzy Dalman and Gianna Puccinelli, assisted by Salma and Emilia. Leading the defensive team was Delaney Dietz along with solid performance for shutout games by both goalkeepers Emilia and Izzy. Third game of the bracket against SCC Breakers 98 tied 2-2 with goals by Carole Thomas and an outstanding breakaway goal by Mattie Mierkey in the first half. Assisting the goals were Salma and Izzy.
Advancing into the championship round the Storm played strong and dominated offensively throughout the game while holding the Athletico Santa Rosa Rampage scoreless until the final minutes of the game when the the Storm ended up with a 1-0 loss. Tremendous teamwork effort contributed also by both the forward and midfield players Sarah Seybold, Haylee Jones, Shelby Bartlett, Aleina Doblados-Rapier and by defenders Siena Retamoza, Emily Stein and Sarah Haley.
