Week 4 Recap

The run of fantastic weather continues for us as we've had only two games PPD by rain this far.  If our streak continues, one of those games will be made up this week, so we're pretty darned close to 'right on schedule.'

The week that was in baseball.

The Grisslies who started the week with a 1-3 record and a -32 in the plus / minus column; went 2-0 with a +23!!! Break up the Grisslies!

The Cleats followed up last week's 2 win with week with another victory this week.  The Batsters are back on the beam with a victory as are the Rusty Rebels.

The Draft Kings, Master Batters, Dodge City Rounders all only played once each this week and all only got a tie.  Why bother?

The Dog Catchers got the other tie this week and coupled with a loss, remain the only team without a victory.  However, with two ties on the season, they're still in the game.

Your home town Hot Tub Woody's, Beer Bros. and Sliders, split the week at 1 and 1.

Exiting the week without gaining a point in the standings were the Hurtin' Units, Gruesome Devils, Sons Of Pitches, and Tap Masters.

Housekeeping....

For your awareness, the Merchants ran a very successful tournament at Coventry last weekend.  Also for your awareness there was a surprise visit by the police and numerous people were fined for drinking in the parking lot.  My understand is that drinking in public carries a $125.00 fine.  However, I know these folks were fined for over $200.00, so I don't know what else is included.

To my knowledge, no one at the Legion has been fined.

Captains will be speaking to players, but the standing instruction going forward on force plays at second base is:  a) if you are obviously out on the play peel out toward the outfield.  OR b) if you are obviously out on the play you may slide to stop AT the bag, not through it.

We are not a league that breaks up double plays at the risk to the fielder or the runner.  Going in "tall" or over running the bag when out is dangerous and inappropriate play.  We (captains and executive) will monitor this for the next month, with the assistance of our Umpire In Chief, prior to making any rash rule changes.  Please be respectful of your own and others safety.

Score sheets, as usual need to be turned in at the drop box at the Legion, unless otherwise handed from the captain to Lou, Danny or myself.

Beer Cup..........

FINALLY!  Some one held on to the Beer Cup.  The Rusty Rebels were able to hold off the Sons Of Pitches in their second try of defending this coveted trophy.

The Rebs will take another shot against the Gruesome Devils on Tuesday.  If they pull that off, they'll have to try againt the Dusty Cleats on Wednesday.
