Union Knights Football Team

 

South Tama jumped up quickly 14-0 as Union's offense was finding ways to move the ball.   Then Union kicker Dakota Hora hit one through from 30 yards to make the score at the end of the first period 14-3.  

 

As the defense began to clamp down the run game of South Tama the offense picked up steam.  Senior Brady Driscol took a deep ball from sophomore QB John Boisen from 39 yards out.   The Knights attempted a fake PAT which failed.   South Tama added a fieldgoal at the end of the half, making the score 17-9.

 

South Tama had the ball first in the second half and the Knights came out with some new found energy.   The Knight offense mixed up the run and pass game and RB Jace Hadachek, senior, found paydirt form two yards out to make the score 71-15 after a failed two point conversion.

 

The defense rose to the occasion again and the Knight offense caught fire with a 23 yard pass from Boisen to sophomore Isaiah Vaughan.   This time the two point conversion was good on a pass to Sr, Dylan Bear.   Union takes the lead 23-17 for the first time of the evening.

 

South Tama responded with a Doyle one yard run and PAT kick to go up 24-23.   Union's Vaughan got stronger as the Knight oline opened up holes into the Trojan defense.   Vaughan scored on a 29 yard run and the two point conversion failed.   Now the Knights were up again, 29-24.

 

The Trojans moved the ball with a mix of run and pass and eventually found an open Damon Whitebreast with a 15 yard pass.   The PAT was good, now the Trojans were up 30-29.

 

With the clock ticking down and less than four minutes a big hit from sophomore Brock Hadachek on QB Doyle caused a fumble recovered by Alex Barz of Union.

 

Union cranked up it's run game and proceeded to get inside the five yard line with under two minutes remaining.   Big fullback Jace Hadachek pounded a one yard run into the end zone to put the Knights up again 35-30 after a failed two point conversion.   

 

Union's defense rose up with a mixture of pressure and coverage to force South Tama to go for it on fourth and nine from midfield.   The last pass fell incomplete and the Union offense took a knee to end the game.

 

Overall, six lead changes verse two teams fighting to stay on top 2A D6 standings.

 

Defensively, Brock Hadachek led the team with 12 tackles and two sacks.   His brother Jace Hadachek had eight tackles including two for loss.   Tate Hadachek and Dylan Bear had seven tackles each.   Justin Carey, Vaughan, and Wes Kaufman each had four.  Union took advantage with two fumble recoveries by Barz and Carey after the Trojans had seven fumbles.   Big interceptions by Brady Driscol (2), and Dylan Bear gave Union a five to one advantage in turnovers.

 

Offensively, Vaughan led all rushers as a sophomore with 145 yds rushing in 21 attempts.  He also caught two balls for 18 yards and one TD.  Driscol was second in rushing with 20 yards in four attempts while Jace Hadachek had two TDs on four rushes for 12 yards.   Boisen was 7 of 14 with two TDs, and one INT for 131 yards.  Driscol was 3 of 6 for 37 yards.  In the receiving department five receivers each had two:  Bear, Drisol, Tate Hadachek, Vaughan, and Carey with Vaughan and Driscol getting TDs.
