Rapid Recap: Knights fall on homecoming night at hands of Maquoketa, 35-15

By Cheyne Reiter

The Maquoketa Cardinals 5-1 (4-0) came into Knight Stadium to take on Union 4-2 (2-2) and left with a 35-15 victory. A big and fast Cardinal defensive line limited Union halfback Wes Burnside to just 47 yards. Burnside was able to score two touchdowns but that wasn't enough as Maquoketa quarterback Chase Coakley led an offensive attack that Union struggled to stop throughout the night. The game was tight heading into the locker rooms as Maquoketa held just a six-point, 21-15 advantage, but two second half touchdowns by the Cardinals buried any hopes that Union had of coming back.

Union travels to Epworth next week to take on Western Dubuque 5-1 (4-0). That game won't be any easier than tonight's as they defeated Central Clinton-DeWitt tonight by a final of 31-14.
