Following his 142 yards and one touchdown effort in the 3A Championship game, Wes Burnside has been nominated as a candidate for the KCRG Athlete of the Week.

Burnside compiled 1,993 total rushing yards on the season and duplicated his touchdown total from 2010 with 30 scores. He helped lead the Knights to their first state title in 24 years.

Although no offers are on the table yet, Burnside has received numerous looks from Iowa, Iowa State, UNI, Minnesota, and South Dakota State.

The Athlete of the Week award will be announced Thursday night during the 10:00 p.m. newscast. The other two finalists are both football players as well; Nate Streb of Class 2A State Champion Iowa City Regina and Ben Knake of Class A State Champion Lisbon.
