Union Knights Football Team

Senior Matt Schmitz has verbally committed to attend COE College next fall. Schmitz was a standout DE and OT for last year's team, a captain, 1st team All-District (3A-D5), and All-State player.

The Coe College football team finished the season ranked in the top 15 of both the D3football.com poll and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) poll. Coe has the longest active streak of being ranked by any Iowa Conference school. Coe is a member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference which is affiliated with NCAA III.

Matt is the son of Kent and Sue Schmitz of La Porte City and is currently undecided on his college major.

Schmitz is the second Union Knight from this year's senior class to commit to play college football. Earlier, Zach Bathen, accepted an offer to play at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
