KWWL highlights of Western Dubuque vs Union game

Union rallies again to stay undefeated

LA PORTE CITY (KWWL) -- For the 3rd time this season, the Union Knights came from behind with a furious second half rally to remain undefeated, with a 43-28 victory over Western Dubuque.

The victory on Pink-Out and Senior night in La Porte City moves Union to 7-0 on the season, and sets up next Friday's much-anticipated rematch from last year and a clash of unbeatens in Class 3A District 5. The Knights travel to Marion to face the undefeated Indians, whom knocked off Union last year.

Friday night saw the Knights celebrate the first game to be played at the Union football field at the new sports complex. It's a beautiful complete facility with an 8-lane track, scoreboard, concession stand and football field. Until Friday night, the Union Knights had played all of their home games this season on the field in Dysart. The renovation project ran several weeks behind schedule because of wet weather.

Western Dubuque took a 21-14 halftime lead. The Bobcats scored three times in the first half, including an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown from Adam Hoeger. Union's amazing junior running back, Wes Burnside, has already set a Union single season school rushing record. Burnside now has 1,600 yards on the season, and there are still two regular season games yet to be played, not to mention the playoffs.

It wasn't just Wes Burnside Friday night. Sophomore quarterback, Trev Hadachek, fired a key touchdown pass to Cory Feldpouch late in the second quarter. Later, Hadachek and the Knights would set an all-time school touchdown pass record, as Hadachek passed 92 yards for the touchdown to put Union up 43-21 with eight minutes left to play.

Union beats Western Dubuque, 43-28 to remain undefeated. Next week, it's Union vs Marion for the District 5 Championship in Marion.
