Union running back Wesley Burnside had a chance to get a taste of varsity football as a freshman. And that experience paid off as this sophomore took his game to a new level for the Knights in 2009.
“It went great. Obviously we finished with a great record. Our offensive line was really good. I couldn’t ask for more.”
Burnside was not shocked at all even after rushing for over 1,200 yards.
“Not really because I knew I could do it. I played as a freshman so I was comfortable playing.”
A new sport has been keeping Burnside busy as of late.
“I’ve just been lifting weights and I joined the wrestling team halfway through the season. The coaches were trying to talk me into going out and I figured I would try something new to stay in shape.”
Burnside mentioned two areas that he hopes to improve on for football.
“I want to get lot more speed. I’m about 175 pounds so I’m trying to get bigger too.”
There has not been much on the recruiting front just yet but Burnside has grown up following one program.
“It is the Hawkeyes. I’ve always loved the Hawkeyes. My dad and family have all followed them and it has carried on.”
