Union defensive end Tanner Heckt has the size and skills to play football at the next level. That is why this talented senior has caught the attention of a number of programs at the Division II level this fall.
"It has been Upper Iowa, the University of Sioux Falls, Southwest Minnesota State, Central, and a little bit from UNI."

Heckt visited one of those schools recently and has more coming soon.

"I was just at the Upper Iowa game and then I'll be going to Sioux Falls this weekend and then Southwest Minnesota State the weekend after."

His trek to Upper Iowa came back as a positive experience overall.

"I really liked it. Their coaches are down to Earth. They are really cool guys to be around. I like their new stadium. It is a nice campus."

Heckt has been enjoying the way that his high school team has been playing as of late.

"We started off with a rough start but everything is going well now. We are starting to turn the corner at just the right time."

The season opening loss to Center Point-Urbana was an eye opener.

"We really learned that every practice has to be as serious as we want to play. We had a lackadaisical week of practice and it didn't pay off in the end."

Heckt still feels there are things that the Knights can improve.

"I think we need to keep playing hard defensively and the offense needs to keep doing what we are doing."

#6 rated Waukon is next on the schedule.

"They are going to be tough. They are off to a good start and they have a good running back with (Marcus) Weymiller. They should be good."

There is one thing that Heckt noticed about their opponent early on.

"I have been told they play really hard. After watching their film, I know they play very hard."
