Silver City Wolves vs. Vermont Ravens

Final:

Wolves - 20

Ravens - 17

Staff report:

The Vermont Ravens started their 11th year playing semi-pro football yesterday by participating in a pre-season game with the Silver City Wolves out of Meriden, CT.  The Ravens are entering their 10th season as a member of the New England Football League after beginning in the now defunct NIFL in 2007.

Vermont Head Coach Pete Everett entered his 3rd year at the helm after having lead the team to a play-off berth last season.

It was a beautiful sunshine filled afternoon for a football game with lots of enthusiasm and excitement to begin another campaign.  The game itself was a tad less exciting with numerous penalties and poorly timed plays that plague such early season scrimmages.  As Coach Everett pointed out to the team during the after-game meeting, this is why we have scrimmages, to learn what the team needs to address at practices with more emphasis.

Raven running back #21 Anthony LaRosa (Northfield) scored twice, one from 11 yards and the second from 6 yards out to lead Vermont.  Kicker #77 Juju Ayida (Plainfield) was successful on a 33-yard field goal to go with his two completed extra points.

First year Raven quarterback #7 Kenny Phillips II (Williston) completed several nice passes and scrambled away from trouble on more than one occasion in his Raven debut.  Another first-year player making a difference was free safety #23 Adam Gowans (Berlin) who made a nice interception and return in his first game with Vermont.

The Ravens regular season is scheduled to begin July 15th as Vermont will travel to Troy, NY playing at Tamarac High School against the Southern VT Storm.  Kick-off time 4:00 PM.  Their first home game is scheduled for July 29th vs the CT. Gamblers.  Kick-off TBD.
