SECTION V CHAMPIONS – Victor 1, Penfield 0!

This is what a Section V Championship game is supposed to look like. Both teams had opportunities, skated well, had penalties for and against, and had defenses that did what they were supposed to do. In the end, Victor held on, beating Penfield 1-0 to win the Section V Championship (http://pointstreak.com/prostats/gamesheet_full.html?gameid=3288004)!  Victor scored late in the first period on a Mitch Rydzynski power play goal – a snap shot from the left dot beating the goalie low. The game ebbed and flowed to the finish with both teams seeming to have the better of play for short periods of time. The Victor defenders did their job, keeping most of the shots against from the outside and letting Chayse Ierlan in goal get a good look. Victor penalty kill also did it’s job, killing off all 5 of Penfield’s power play opportunities. Mostly, Chayse did his job, turning away all 39 Penfield shots and freezing pucks in traffic. Victor (19-0-4) next takes on Section IV winner, Ithaca (12-8-0) on Saturday, March 3 at 7:00 at Cornell’s Lynah Arena in the New York State Championship Regional round.
