NEWS FROM THE WILLOWS

18 September, 2014

I can only assume we have had a frost which appears to have withered my “Green Shoots” from last week and not even “Bob the Ploughmans” famous runner beans could survive that. Wivenhoe came to the Meadow on Saturday and went home with a fully justified 4-0 victory, a fast raiding team who worked very hard and scored two goals in each half. We did have good periods of possession but it came to nothing and we look forward to Mildenhall on Wednesday night. Match sponsor Scott Paternoster of S P Windows picked Charlie Robinson as his man of the match and we would like to thank Scott for his support and he also runs the U12 youth team who assisted as ball boys on Saturday. The reserves started their campaign with a 3-0 defeat at Brantham with a much changed side from last season and the “A” team moved into the next round of the Gipping Press Cup with a narrow 4-3 win at Debenham, the goals from debutant Will Gudgen, old stager Harvey Rust and two from another player making his debut and man of the match Taylor Pooley. Last week I omitted to report on the “B” side who started their campaign with a 4-0 victory at Wortham Res in the Bury League Div 3. This was a first for “Wally’s “team as it was their first clean sheet since being formed over 12 months ago. This Saturday they followed it up with a 2-1 victory over Ram Meadow reserves after being 1-0 down at half time, the goals being scored by Daniel James and Edward Elers. The “B” side sit proudly at the top of the league, they have won nearly as many matches this season as all of last season so maybe I have found the “Green shoots” further down with the “A” and “B” teams. We invited a few sponsors along on Saturday and I am sure the Pimms went down very well but during the conversation it got round to talking about “walking football” and with half of the AGP available on Monday nights from 8 to 9 pm it will all be happening on this Monday with anyone interested invited to come along and try it.
