The Whitman Board of Health wanted to reach out to you about the recent report from the Department of Public Health stating Whitman had a mosquito sample test positive for West Nile Virus. At this time, the Board is not closing town fields. However, the Board requests your assistance in getting the word out to coaches and parents stressing the importance of taking steps to limit the exposure to mosquitos.
The Board recommends following “The 5 D’s”:
- Stay indoors Dusk to Dawn when mosquitoes are most prevalent.
- Use insect repellent that contains DEET (age appropriate).
- Dress in long sleeves, pants and spray insect repellent on the clothes.
- Drain standing water on your property so mosquitoes won’t breed.
