State Records- Football Coaching Wins Leaders

California could get its fourth 300-win coach during 2012 season as its all-time leader starts to close in on 400. The Cal-Hi Sports state record book list of those with 200 or more seems to grow by three or four every season.

With an expected young team in 2012, it might be tough for coach John Barnes of Los Alamitos to get his career win-loss record up to the milestone total of 300 since he began coaching in 1978 at Magnolia of Anaheim. There also are differing numbers for his win total (due to forfeit wins, losses) so the local celebration in Orange County might not match the Cal-Hi Sports timeline, but Barnes clearly deserves the praise whenever it is celebrated. He would become just the fourth in state history to reach 300, preceded only by Herb Meyer of El Camino Oceanside, Marijon Ancich from St. Paul of Santa Fe Springs and Bob Ladouceur from De La Salle of Concord.

Since achieving his 300th win, Ladouceur has moved past the other two coaches on the all-time state list and projects to reach 400 by the middle of the 2013 season. His teams at De La Salle won CIF Open Division state bowl titles in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Here is an updated look at the Cal-Hi Sports state football coaching wins category (all those reported with 200 wins or more are included):
