TYNEside UNITED GETS
BACK ON THE RIGHT TRACK
By: Phillip Detmer, Tyneside United
Soccer Club
AUGUST 23 2008 (LAS VEGAS, NV) -- Tyneside
recovered nicely last weekend against La Barca in the Las Vegas Major
Soccer League after the team suffered a succession of losses. The
first was a 2-0 loss to Arroyo '92 in the championship final of the
Santa Barbara Fiesta Cup Tournament and the second was a 1-0 loss to
Mexico DF in Week 4 of the Las Vegas Major Soccer League.
The slump was finally broken
last Sunday against La Barca as Tyneside went on a 7-goal scoring spree.
Six different Tyneside players recorded points for the squad and Lance
Esther scored his second double of the season.
Tyneside were looking for
answers on how to break their 2-game scoring drought and newly
re-acquired midfielder Diego Flores answered those questions in the 22nd
minute. Flores won the ball back inside the goal box and then
cleverly side stepped his defender, clearing a chance for a shot.
Flores proceeded to roof the ball inside the near post. The goal
seemed to revive the Tyneside scoring spirit as Lance Esther soon found
the back of the net 10-mins later.
The second half became a
clinic as Tyneside's offense began to break down their opponents
defense. Five unanswered goals were scored by Geoff Barto, Javier
Hernandez, Ben Stott, Brian Rogers, and Lance Esthers second. The
Tyneside defense did an excellent job of shutting down any La Barca
attack and recorded their second shutout of the season.
Tyneside doesn't have the
luxury taking any breaks as they face off against
Masters College at 8pm on Saturday (8/23/08) night at the Kellogg/Zaher
Soccer Complex (Field 7) in an Exhibition Friendly. So far,
Tyneside are 2-0-0 this season for friendlies. They defeated the
Nevada '92 ODP Team in July and last month the team dismantled the
Nellis Air Force Base club team.
Masters College are
preparing for their upcoming season and have traveled to Las Vegas for a
series of exhibition games. Masters College were last seasons 2007
NCCAA National Champions and are lead by head coach Jim Rickard.

arroyo scores early
to shock tyneside
By: Phillip Detmer, Tyneside United

AUGUST 3 2008 (SANTA BARBARA, CA) --
Arroyo ‘92 jumped on Tyneside United from the opening whistle, getting
two goals in the first half of Sunday’s Championship Final to beat the
Las Vegas champs 2-0 at the 2008 Fiesta Soccer Tournament. Arroyo looked
strong from the start and appeared ready for the challenge ahead, while
Tyneside looked flat in the first half and didn’t find their rhythm
until the second half. Tyneside may have been over-confident heading
into the final after defeating Durango 2-1 in the semi-final round.
Durango is a three time Silver Mug Invitational winner and a perennial
powerhouse in amateur soccer.

2008 LAS VEGAS MAJOR SOCCER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
LAS
VEGAS, NV (May 25 2008) -- Caesars Palaces’ hopes of a LVMSL trophy this
season were crushed as Tyneside United claimed the League Cup with a 4-1
win on Sunday morning. Geoff Barto struck four times, two in the first
half and two second-half goals to rout Caesars Palace 4-1 on a glorious
weekend afternoon at McCarran Marketplace Soccer Park. A packed house of
a couple hundred fans and spectators from each team surrounded the
touchlines of the soccer pitch. The match also included a live radio
announcer, special guests, and several local newspaper reporters were on
hand for the highly anticipated match-up. But the afternoon ended in
disappointment for Caesars Palace, just as it had done for Tyneside
several months ago in the Governor’s Cup Semi-Final. Tyneside United was
the better team during the first half. However, Caesars Palace
challenged the Tyneside defense during the first 10 minutes, with their
midfield and forwards combining to keep the ball with a series of neat
short passes. But Geoff Barto, operating mostly in the center forward
position, also kept Caesars' back line honest with his shooting threat.
With Caesars doing little to trouble Tim Velasquez in the Tyneside goal
later on, Tyneside were doing all the pressing and Barto soon found a
shot that glanced inside of the far post after being set up by Brian
Rogers. The victory against Caesars was justice for last weeks loss to
Latin United in the Quarter-Finals of the Inter-Liga Cup Competition.
Tyneside will go on break for the next two months before preparing for
the Santa Barbara Fiesta Cup Tournament in August. The team completed
one of its longest seasons this year, competing in over 40 matches.
