HISTORY:
On this date in 1918 Game One of the World Series was played a month early because of World War I. The Red Sox defeated the Cubs, 1-0, behind Babe Ruth's complete game shutout. The first three games of the Series were moved to the South side, at Comiskey Park, for more seating.

TRIVIA:
Sources say the National Anthem was sung for the first time at a professional sporting event at that game. It was performed during the seventh inning stretch.
