Warriors-Flames Washed Out
July 9, 2008

Shorthanded Warriors Fall to Crispin 6-2
Warminster traveled to Pollock Playground in NE Philly with only ten of their twenty-three rostered players due to injury, vacation, and American Legion playoffs. They took on Crispin without four of their regular bats in the lineup. But they had Joe Clark on the hill, who has pitched well all season and shut down Crispin at Munro Park just two weeks before. Clark pitched pretty well again despite giving up six runs (one unearned) on twelve hits in six innings. Andrew Kozlowski had two hits for Warminster, and CJ Brancato added two hits and knocked in both Warrior runs with his second inning double. Brancato also played a stellar right field as he made two diving catches after switching catcher positions with Kozlowski in the third inning. The Warriors last inning rally fell short, however, and they lose the season series to Crispin 3-2.

Warminster falls to 13-9-1; Crispin improves to 13-8-1.

Warminster-Roxborough Finish in a 2-2 Tie
John Fernandez gave up just two runs--both in the first inning--and then shut the door the rest of the way as Warriors and Bandits tied at two after seven innings due to darkness. Fernandez threw the complete game, giving up two earned runs on five hits, walking three and striking out nine. Fernandez got stronger as the innings rolled by, despite getting no help from an inconsistent strike zone by the home plate umpire. Dave Drysdale went 2-3 with a double and an RBI along with two stolen bases. Bob Argeros and Joe Clark added two hits each for the Warriors.

Records: Warminster 13-8-1; Roxborough 7-14-1

Warriors Rebound, DeCecco 1-Hits Roxborough
After getting dealt an embarrassing loss in Roxborough on Monday night, the Warriors responded with a 9-0 win at home on Wednesday. Greg DeCecco took the mound and surrendered just one bloop hit and one walk in six commanding innings of work for the shutout. DeCecco struck out seven Bandits in the six-inning complete game victory to improve to 2-0. Tom Mastromatto--who continues to swing a hot bat--was 3 for 3 at the plate with three stolen bases and three runs scored. Dom Dovidio, Travis Roth and Dave Drysdale each had two hits for Warminster.

Records: Warriors 13-8; Bandits 7-14

Roxboro Crushes Depleted Warriors, 13-3

Glenside Outlasts Warminster, 10-7
Glenside's Pat Brady (1-3, 2B, 3 RBI) and John Drozdowski (2-3, 2B, RBI) lead the hit attack to make a winner of starting pitcher Tom Miller who went the distance while scattering six Warminster hits. Joe Clark had two hits for the Warriors.

Warminster Bats Come Alive, Beat Crispin 7-1
The Warriors 10-hit attack, lead by Bobby Argeros (3-4, 3 runs scored, 2 SB), Tom Mastromatto (3-4, 2 runs scored, 2 RBI, SB) and Dom Dovidio (3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, SB) paved the way for a 7-1 win over visiting Crispin. Joe Clark notched his third win, looking strong in seven effortless innings. He gave up one unearned run on 6 hits, walked one and struck out two while going the distance.
For Crispin, Dan Higgins was 2-3 and scored a run, and Ray Inchautegui added two hits and a stoeln base. Kirk Bucholski pitched well but took the loss.
Records: Warminster 12-6; Crispin 10-7-1.

Warriors' Bragin Blanks Hatboro in 9
Alex Bragin pitched a complete-game, nine-inning shutout as the Warriors finally broke through with two runs in the top of the ninth to beat Hatboro, 2-0. Bragin's only trouble came in the first, when he had to work out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam from two singles and a hit batter. He proceeded to strike out the next two hitters to end the inning and the only threat Hatboro posed all day. Bragin tossed all nine, giving up just four hits, two walks, and one hit batter while striking out nine to pick up the impressive win.

The game was a pitcher's duel throughout, until the ninth inning when Bobby Argeros lead off with a four-pitch walk. Then after two failed bunt attempts, Tom Mastromatto hit a hard bouncer to second base for a potential double play. Instead, the ball hit second baseman Joe Balco's glove and rolled into right field with no outs. Mastromatto then stole second to set up to set up Nate Roman's two-run single to left field. Hatboro pitcher Steve Johnston also pitched a great game, going the distance in the hard luck loss giving up one earned run on five hits and one walk, while striking out eight Warriors.

Warminster pitchers have not given up a run this year in 14 total innings against Hatboro. The Warriors improve to 11-6.

Upper Moreland No-Hits Warriors 4-0
Upper Moreland pitchers Scott Beard and Arshwin Asjes completely overmatched Warminster's hitters, combing on a seven inning no-hit shutout in a 4-0 win. Beard struck out 12 Warriors, and Asjes fanned 3 in two relief innings. The Brewers got an unearned run in the 3rd on a throwing error, and got two more runs (one unearned) in the fifth on three hits and an error. Mike Gers hit a solo homerun to lead off the sixth inning for Upper Moreland.
Joe Clark pitched well keeping Warminster in the game, throwing seven innings, giving up four runs (two unearned), 8 hits, 2 BB's and struck out 2.

Northampton Comes to Play, Beats Warminster 7-3
Riding a four-game winning streak, the Warminster Warriors walked into a buzz saw on Wednesday, as host Northampton downed Warminster 7-3. Northampton out-hustled and out-played the Warriors, who could not seem to do anything right after taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Jimmy Carrol pitched a complete game, allowing 3 unearned runs while striking out 5. Billy Volrath and Mike Simonelli both went 2-4 with 2 RBI each. Dan Miller scored 2 runs and had a stolen base.

Warminster's Freddy Reichwein pitched the entire six innings, giving up seven runs (one unearned) on nine hits, walking four and striking out eleven. Nate Roman was 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI for the Warriors.

Argeros Starts, Stifles Glenside in 8-5 Win
Bobby Argeros made his first start of the season a good one, keeping the Glenside hitters in check with a 8-5 win. After closing three prior games with two saves, Argeros looked strong in his 5.2 innings of work as a starter. He gave up five runs (2 unearned), seven hits, six walks and six K's. Freddy Reichwein came in to get the save against his former team after walking the first two hitters he faced.
The Warriors offense was lead by catcher Andrew Kozlowski, who was 1-2 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Warminster also got a RBI each from Bobby Argeros, Dom Dovidio, Dan Roman and Dave Drysdale.

DeCecco & Warriors Down Knights 7-0
HORSHAM — It took Warminster a while to get going offensively, but pitcher Greg DeCecco kept his offense in the game long enough to make something happen as the Warriors defeated Hatboro, 5-0, in a Pen-Del League game.

It was DeCecco’s third game since coming off of hernia surgery and he got stronger as the game progressed.

“It was my first start since the surgery,” DeCecco said, “and I wanted to work quickly so I could get some good work in.”

He ran into trouble in the first inning when Hatboro leadoff man Ryan Trautmen reached base on a lined single to leftfield. The next batter Brian Mathy followed with another single to right. With no outs and the first two runners on, Hatboro had a prime opportunity to strike first. However, Mathy was thrown out trying to steal second and DeCecco began to get into a rhythm. He retired eight of the next nine batters and struck out the side in the second and fourth innings.

“We had him limited to a pitch count and were going to take him out after the third, but he had a low count and wanted to go back in for the fourth inning,” said Warriors manager Dave Boice. “He hadn’t really pitched in a meaningful game in a few years so we’re working him back nicely so he can pitch five, six, or seven innings as a top of the rotation guy for us.”

On the other side Hatboro pitcher Ryan Santry was cruising through three innings. He was locating his off-speed stuff on both sides of the plate and had the Warminster hitters off balance.

Then in the top of the fifth inning chaos ensued after a single, a walk, and an error loaded the bases for the Warriors.

On a full count and with no outs, Joe Clark sent a line drive to Knight centerfielder Steve Johnston, who made the catch and threw the ball to the plate in an attempt to double up Warriors third baseman Nate Roman at the plate. The ball was cut off by Santry and fired home, but to no avail as Roman plowed over the Hatboro catcher Gary Mitchell. Both teams cleared the dugouts and the result was a full-blown brawl resulting in two ejections and a game delay of fifteen minutes.

“What caused the problem was that their guy flipped our catcher at the end of the play,” said Hatboro manager Craig Siegfried.

Warminster went on to score four more runs in the fourth off of four Hatboro errors. The inning unraveled the Knights and ruined Santry’s otherwise impeccable performance.

“He did well in the first few innings by throwing strikes, but when guys get on base he puts a lot of pressure on himself to make the perfect pinpoint pitch,” Siegfried said. “We just had one bad inning.”

Warminster thought that the game provided insight into how they have been playing for a majority of the early season.

“We aren’t hitting to the point that we should be hitting,” Boice said. “We walk a lot and take advantage of other team’s mistakes, but we need to start hitting more. The stretch of games this week will show us where we stand in this league.”

Fernandez Goes the Distance, Shuts Out Crispin 1-0
The Warriors began their roadtrip in which they play five games in five consecutive days on a winning note on Sunday. John Fernandez brought the heat as the Warriors shut out Crispin 1-0 on a hot afternoon where runs were hard to come by. Fernandez picked up his first win as a Warrior with a compete-game victory, giving up just four hits and three walks while striking out nine. The game was a pitchers duel throughout, as the Warriors got the only run of the game in the top of the sixth off Crispin starter Tom Foley. With one out, second baseman Tom Mastromatto beat out an infield single to start the inning. Then centerfielder Alex Bragin worked the only Warriors walk of the game, making it first and second with one out. Dom Dovidio stepped to the plate and hit a hard ground ball to second baseman Dan Higgins, who threw to shortstop Jordan Hofferman for the second out of the inning. But the relay throw to first base for the attempted double play hit Dovidio in the leg and bounced into rightfield to allow Mastromatto to score from second for what turned out to be the only run of the game. Foley, who one-hit the Warriors the last time they played, also went the distance for Crispin, surrendering just five hits, a walk and the one unearned run, while fanning seven.

The Warriors improve to 8-4, while Crispin falls to 6-5-1.

Warriors First Six Hitters Score in 1st, Win 10-6
Warminster jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first and never looked back in their 10-6 win over Northampton. Alex Bragin (2-1) picked up the complete-game victory going 7 innings giving up 6 runs (1 unearned), 7 hits, 3 walks and 6 K's.
Records: Warminster 7-4; Northampton 2-9

Six-Run First Thrusts Loma over Warminster 8-3
Despite starting the game with nine players, visiting Loma jumped out to a 6-0 lead on the Warriors in the first inning in route to an 8-3 win. After beating up on Loma 10-1 on Sunday at Tarken playground, Warminster came out flat on Wednesday at home with just two hits in the game. Loma scored six runs on three hits and five walks issued by Warriors starting pitcher Dave Boice. Loma starting pitcher Tom Hellwarth went the distance, giving up three runs on two hits and seven walks, while striking out seven in five innings for the win. Mike Whitaker helped him at the plate going 2-2 with 2 RBI.

Dom Dovidio started a Warriors three-run rally in the second with a leadoff double, but those three runs would be all Warminster could produce in the game. Newly acquired Fred Reichwein pitched well in relief, giving up one unearned run on two hits, walking one and fanning two in two and two-thirds innings.

Loma improves to 7-3-1, while Warminster ends their four game win streak and falls to 6-4.

Warriors Pound Flames, Win Fourth Straight
The Warminster warriors scored runs in every inning but one as they defeat the Olney Flames, 14-3. Alex Bragin knocked in four runs with a bases clearing triple and Andrew Kozlowski knocked in three runs with a double and sac fly. Travis Roth drove in two and scored a run while catching all five innings behind the dish. Dave Drysdale got the win, and Greg DeCecco slammed the door with two shutout innings to seal to win. The Warriors climb to 6-3 on the season.

Warriors Break Out the Bats, beat Loma 10-1
With the temperature nearing 100 degrees on Sunday, the Warminster bats were red hot in beatng Loma for the second time this season, 10-1. Alex Bragin set a Warriors record with 6 RBI in the game with a 3-run triple in the 3rd and a 3-run double in the 5th. Dave Drysdale added two hits and two runs, and Dan Roman was 2-3 with a double and a run scored. On the hill for the Warriors, Joe Clark shut down Loma, scattering four hits and giving up just one run while striking out three and walking none in six innings of work. Clark ups his record to 2-0, while the Warriors move to 5-3 on the season.

Wed 6/4 Game Cancelled....Unplayable Field Conditions

Bragin, Dovidio Douse Flames
Alex Bragin shut down the Olney Flames, giving up just one hit in five scoreless innings to earn the victory. Dom Dovidio did much of the offensive damage, going 2-2 with three RBI. Andrew Kozlowski singled twice and walked, and Nate Roman hit a big two-run double to break the game open in the fourth. In his first action since coming off the DL, righthander Greg DeCecco looked impressive as he struck out the side in the sixth inning to end the game. Warminster climbs a game above .500 to 4-3.

5-Run Fifth Propels Warriors Over Northampton
The Warminster Warriors batted around in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on 3 hits and 3 walks. Bob Argeros knocked in the first Warrior run with a bases loaded walk, followed by a Tom Mastromatto sac fly. Then Nate Roman singled home another run before Travis Roth doubled to deep right to knock in two more. Starter Dave Drysdale picked up his first win, going 6 strong innings giving up three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two. Bob Argeros pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to notch his second save in as many tries. Shane Hanna homered for Northampton.

Foley Blanks Warriors with One-Hitter
Crispin starter Tom Foley went the distance with a one-hit shutout and near perfect game over Warminster at Munro Park. Foley was perfect through the first eleven hitters he faced until Nate Roman's liner to first broke up the no-no. Foley then retired the final ten batters in a row while striking out four. Mike Leone's bloop single to right scored Dan Higgins with the first and only run Crispin would need. Dave Boice took the loss for Warminster, going seven innings and giving up two runs on three hits while striking out seven and walking four.

Mastromatto's Walk-off Double Wins it for Warriors
Once again, the Warminster offense waited until the last inning to come alive. With a thunderstorm looming going into the bottom of the sixth, the Warriors trailed 4-0. They loaded the bases with no outs when Jim Plunkett grounded into a fielder's choice to get the Warriors on the board. Then back-to-back RBI singles by Andrew Kozlowski and Bob Argeros cut the deficit to 4-3. Second baseman Tom Mastromatto stepped to the plate and delivered a clutch two-run double in the gap to win the game. Joe Clark settled in to pick up his first win, going the distance giving up four runs on five hits, walking none and striking out four.

Early Warrior Miscues Costly in 7-3 Loss
Warminster errors and hit batsmen set the stage for Crispin, who scored three unearned runs in the first three innings in route to a 7-3 win at Munro Park. Alex Bragin swallowed the loss for Warminster, going just three innings giving up 5 runs (3 unearned), 5 hits, 2 walks, 2 HB, and 5 K's. Brett DiFelice had two hits and an RBI for Crispin, while Dan Metague pitched four innings to get the win. He gave up 3 runs on 4 hits, 1 BB, while striking out 6. Dan Roman had a RBI double in the 4th for Warminster.

Upper Moreland Holds on to Win 3-2
Upper Moreland jumped out to a 2-0 in the first inning and never looked back as pitcher Corey Crispell shut down the warrior bats. Warminster didn't get their first baserunner until the top of the fourth when leadoff man Tom Mastromatto lead off with a single, but was then stranded as the next three hitters went 1-2-3. After consecutive singles by Bragin & Kelly, Travis Roth reached base on an error to start the sixth. Jim Hampshire's groundout brought in the first Warriors run. Then a Joe Clark sacrifice bunt scored Sean Kelly from third on the throw to first to make it 3-2. The Warriors loaded the bases in the sixth, but Crispell worked his way out of the jam unharmed to pick up the victory.
