Warrington Soccer Club

Frequently-Asked-Questions about Intramurals

Q: My child has never played soccer before. What do we need?

A: All children should bring a soccer ball and a water bottle to practice and games. Shinguards must be worn, under socks. Rubber-cleated shoes are strongly recommended. Balls come in various sizes. For U-8 and younger, use a #3 ball. For U-10 and U-12, we use a #4. For U-15 and up, we use a #5 ball. For practice, children should where shorts and a comfortable top. All jewelry should be removed, especially pierced earrings, for both practice and games. This also includes silicon bracelets.

Q: When are practices? How many practices are there per week? We're going on vacation, will that affect my child?

A: For Fall, the start of practices will be announced in early August (for 2004, its 8/16). For U-8 and below, there is one practice per week. For U-10 and up, there may be two practices per week. Missing practice will have no effect on your child's participation with the team. All children 'make the team' in Intramurals and all children should play 75% of the time in a game when it is mathematically possible.

For Spring, there are no scheduled practices. There is practice time built into the gametime slot.

Q: Why do you need my e-mail address?

A: It is very important that we have a valid email address that is not blocked by a company spam policy. E-mail is the most effective form of communication when we need to communicate with the club membership. With over 1300 children in Intramurals, it saves a great deal of time for the volunteers running the program. Please do not give us your child's email address. When we need to communicate with you, we need to talk to an adult. We do not sell, share, or rent your email address with anyone. We only use it for club business.

Q: What does the 'U' in 'U-6' mean?

A: The 'U' in all age group designations means 'Under'. All children in that age group are Under whatever the number is. So, all children in U-6 are under 6 years old (5). Travel programs run at least one team in each age group (for every year). Intramurals combine ages starting with U-10 which consists of 8 and 9 year-olds. U-12 consists of 10 and 11 year-olds. U-15 has 12-14 year-olds and U-18 has 15-17 year-olds.
