Round Robin Tournament Rules

These rules are for Intramural tournaments for the U-12 and up age brackets. Other rules are available for U-7, U-8, U-10. U-6 and below do not have a tournament.

The schedule for the tournament shall be created at the beginning of the season from a random combining of teams. The won-loss record of each team shall have no bearing on the playoffs.

Rules for the Tournament

  1. Unless otherwise indicated here, normal Warrington Soccer Club rules apply.
  2. Each team will play a minimum of two games.
  3. The game will consist of two halves with a 5-minute halftime intermission between halves. The time period for each half will be determined by age group and time availability. The recommended times will be followed for each age group.
  4. There is no overtime for the round robin games in the tournament. See rule 11 for the Final game.
  5. Points are awarded as follows:
  6. A forfeit is declared if one team fails to have one player less than the required number to play, 15 minutes after the scheduled game time (10 players). In the event of forfeit, the winning score is 1-0.
  7. Both coaches must provide scores to the age group coordinator or his/her designee.
  8. After all teams have completed their scheduled games, the two teams scoring the most points will face each other in a final championship game. Except in 5 team division. See #10
  9.  Tie-breakers:
    1.) Two-way ties:
    a.) Head-to head
    b.) Total Goal differential in all games played (maximum of 3 per game)
    c.) Team allowing the least total goals in all games played
    d.) Total number of shutouts in all games played
    e.) Shootout (see below)
    2.) Three-way ties (in each case, if the rule eliminates 1 team, then use 2-way):
    a.) Total Goal differential in all games played (maximum or 3 per game)
    b.) Team allowing the least total goals in all games played
    c.) 3-way Shootout (see below)
    3.) Four-way ties (in each case, if the rule eliminates 2 teams, then use 2-way)
    a.) Total Goal differential in all games played (maximum of 3 per games)
    b.) Team allowing the least total goals in all games played
    c.) 4-way Shootout (see below)
  10. 5 Team Divisions play 4 games each.  No Championship game. Winner is the team with the most points.  See tie breakers for 1st & 2nd place.
  11. Final Championship Game:

The tournament should be a fun experience for everyone involved. Trophies will be awarded to first and second place teams. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Winning Goal Differential: The third tiebreaker is the sum of the difference in the score of each winning game, with a maximum value of 3 per game. If a team's scores in the round-robin are 5-0 (W), 1-3 (L), and 3-1 (W), the goal differential is 5: 3 for the first game, none for the loss, and 2 for the third game.
