Roadrunners win 2009 NJBL Memorial Day Tournament !!!!!!!

Once again the Baymen Roadrunners win the NJBL memorial Tournament with a 6-0 Record. The Roadrunners got exceptional defense and pitching all weekend and toughed out a grueling 6 game in three days schedule. Ending with two great wins on Monday against two real tough teams, Ozone/Howard and St. Joe's.

The tournament MVP this year was Anthony Pristera with his clutch hitting and outstanding pitching performance in the semi final game throwing a 62 pitch complete game.

Highlight of the weekend was the power barrage in the Semi Final game which saw Frank Tricamo hit one over the center field fence, we were trailing at the time 3-0. Frank's shot brought us to within 1 run. the next inning the bats came to life with Two long doubles off the center field fence by Josh Gerson and Mike Lazos giving us the lead for good.

The finals was a well played game with excellent pitching by both teams. Eric Peper pitched four outstanding innings limiting St. Joe's to one run and only 5 hits. In the fouth inning with the game tied at 1-1 and one out Eric Peper and AnthonY Pristera sigled and advanced to 2nd and third on a wild pitch, St. Joe's decided to intentionally walk Josh Gerson to pitch to Mike Lazos, this move proved to be fatal for St. Joe's as Mike laced a double to left field scoring two runs and giving us a 3-1 lead which was all we needed. the final was 5 -1.

For some stange reason we are winning all our tournament games and playing mediocre baseball in our Spring League. We are currently 10-0 in tounaments this year and have won both tournaments we have entered so far.

10U ROADRUNNERS WIN 11 U 60 ' Tod Caden Memorial Tournament!!!!

We played in the 11 U 60' Foot division of this tournament and excelled throughout the weekend we started the weekend out on saturday playing a team from Hewlett. After starting slowly offensively we opened the game up late and won 17 -1. We then went into Sunday having to play 3 games to win the Championship. We took the first game against MLI's 10 U team 10 -0 in 5 innings. We then played MLI's 11 U team and won 18-3. The final game was against the 11 U Brookhaven Elite team. We outplayed them from the start and played impressive defense to go along with a complete game pitching performance from Eric Peper. Eric also went 9 for 13 on the weekend and batted .692 driving in 13 runs to become the tournament MVP.

Game # 1 Roadrunners 17 Hewlett 1

We started out slow offensively in this game and then scored 4 and 7 runs in the 4th and 5th innings to put the game away. Pitching was the key in this game with Eric, Anthony P & Josh combining on a 2 hitter and only allowing 1 run. Eric led the way going 3 for 4 with 5 RBI's. Everyone in the lineup had at least 1 hit in this game.

Game # 2 Roadrunners 10 - MLI 10U 0

Mike Lazos pitched a complete game in this one, striking out 6 and only allowing 1 hit. The MLI pitcher, Vinny Pepitone did his best to keep MLI in the game but our bats were starting to wake up and we began to hit the ball with authority. Billy Huber was 2 for 3, Mike lazos was 2 for 3 and Eric Peper was 3 for 3 with 4 RBI's to lead the way.

Game # 3 Roadrunners 18 - MLI 11U 3

We came out hitting in this game after a long 3 hour wait to play. Billy Huber set the tone with an early hit and Mike Lazos quickly drove home the first run of the game. Anthony Pristera pitched 3 2/3 innings of tough baseball limiting the Phantoms to 3 runs. We finally broke it open with a barrage of hits in the 5th scoring 10 runs. We had 7 hits in this inning and really started to drive the ball to all fields. Billy Huber finished the game out on the mound. Defensive highlight was Anthony Greco's great play at second base in the 3rd inning to save a couple of runs.
Championship Game

Roadrunners 5 Brookhaven Elite 2

We came out hitting again. Billy drove a long fly ball to the right field fence just missing it. Anthony P. then hit a hard one hopper to short that the shortstop couldn't handle and reached first. Mike Lazos was then hit in the jaw with the next pitch which seemed to ignite the team and give them second life after along day. Eric Peper drove in the first run with a SAC fly to right field and we were leading 1 -0. Eric then took the mound and took control immediately striking out the first batter he faced. Anthony P. then ended the inning with a diving catch in center field with two runners on base. Billy Huber drove another run in in the second inning and we went ahead 2 -0. A rare defensive lapse in the second allowed Brookhaven to plate a run and close the gap to 2 -1. We responded right away with 3 runs in the 3rd inning capped by a Ryan Catizone single which scored two runs for us. With a 5 -2 lead Eric took charge and held Brookhaven down. In the bottom of the 6th Anthony P. again made a diving catch in center for the 2nd out of the inning and Eric struck out the last batter to seal the deal and give us our first tournament championship this year.

If we play the way we played this weekend we will be tough to beat. Great hitting, Pitching and phenominal defense all weekend.

CONGRATULATIONS GUYS !!!!!!!!!!!

Game # 1 Baymen 12 Commack Bearcats 0

Well, It was a long winter but the Roadrunners picked up where they left off. We started out against the Commack Bearcats at Baymen Field. The first game saw a No Hitter served up by Eric Peper. Eric was great today. Eric struck out 11 of the 14 batters he faced and only one ball was put into play by Commack. On the offensive end we did what we needed to do to build a lead and put the game away with 7 runs in the 3rd inning. We stole 19 bases in this game and took advantage of the new stealing home rule with 4 steals of home. Josh Gerson was 2 for 2 with an RBI in this game and made a great play on the only ball hit into play.

Game # 2 Baymen 3 Commack Bearcats 2

Like I always say it is very hard to win the second game of a double header. Mike Lazos took to the mound in this game and struggled a little walking the first two batters he faced. He then found his groove and ended the threat only allowing 1 run. We responded in the first with a run of our own after a single by Billy Huber and several steals Mike Lazos drove him in with a SAC. In the second inning we scored again on a single by Brian Hillis. Mike Lazos struck out 8 batters over his four innings and allowed only 1 hit. The defensive highlight was Billy Huber's catch of a pop up behind second base and mid air throw to first to double up the Commack runner and end a threat in the 5th inning. In the top of the 6th Commack tried to play small ball with three consecutive bunts. The first was nicely executed for a single, the second resulted in Anthony Pristera throwing out the batter at first base. After another bunt which resulted in the batter taking second base on a heads up play to not allow the runner to score from third base, Anthony bore down on the next two Commack batters and struck them both out preserving the tie. In the bottom of the sixth we started the inning with a hard single by Josh Gerson, after an out Eric Peper was hit by a pitch. After the second out we had runners on first and second with two outs and we executed a double steal which resulted in the Catcher throwing the ball wild to third allowing Josh to score from Third with the winning run.

We did what we needed to do to win this game. We have some work to do but we are on the right track.

Great game and way to hang in there when things don't go our way. Games like this build charachter and show everyone that we are never out of a game.

Keep up the hard work!!!!!!!

BAYMEN TAKE FALL BBH TITLE !!!!

Third Season Title of Year !!!!!

Baymen 14 LI Mudcats 4

We again played a tough LI Mudcats team, but right from the start we dominated this game, just like we should have last week. We again faced their best pitcher in teh bottom of the first we promptly loaded the bases to set up Mike McGrath's bases claering double to the fence in right center. In the 2nd inning it was more of the same with Frank Tricamo and Mike Lazos with huge hits to score four more runs and give us a commanding 7-0 lead after 2innings. The Mudcats fought back and with patience at the plate scoring 4 runs in the third. We again responded and erased those runs with 3 more runs in the 3rdh and 1 in the 4th to take a commanding 11 - 4 lead. Mike settled in and was in a groove on the mound. In the bottom of the fifth we loaded the bases again and with one out we scored 2 runs to make it 13 - 4 and we needed one more run to run rule the Mudcats. After the next batter struck out the Mudcats thought the inning was over and Ryan Catizone stole home to end the game while everyone else was walking off the field. It was apparent from the start that the Mudcats took us lightly, they did not think that we could beat them based on last weeks game and they were very wrong. That Mudcats team was the best 9 year old team around last year and did not lose many games all year this year. the progress you guys made this year was unbelievable. We started out the year at BBH on a cold weekend and played the worst 3 games this team has ever played and ended with one of the best games we played all year. You guys surpassed my expectations which were pretty high to begin with for this team.

We won 5 seperate championships this year, and 6 if you count last fall!!! It couldn't get much better than that.

Enjoy your time off and get ready for Winter Workouts which will begin in January. Work on the things you think you need the most work on and improve those areas.

Remember every team we play next year will be gunning for us, because we are now the team to beat.

BBH 10/ 15

Baymen 4 Mudcats 7

We lost a tough game on Wed. Night against a very good LI Mudcats team who was also undefeated. The game started out slowly for both teams with good pitching and great defense. The mudcats took an early 1 -0 lead which we quicky erased in the top of the 2nd inning. They again took the lead in their half of the third inning. We again tried to come back and scored another run in the third to tie it. We had two outs in the bottom of the fourth and then allowed 3 straight hits after an error to allow the Mudcats to score 3 runs. We again fought back with two runs of our own with two outs and closed the gap to 5 - 4. In the bottom of the same inning we then gave them another two runs to let the game get away from us. We now control our own destiny against the Mudcats and can win the division with a win next Wed. night. We proved that we are still the team to beat in this division and gave them their toughest game of the year. We need to limit the mistakes and take it to them right away next wed. night.

PORT WASHINGTON PAL COLUMBUS DAY TOURNAMENT

Game #1 Baymen 7 Bayside 3

We started against a tough Bayside team, that had great pitching and defense. The game started with Eric Peper on the mound for the first two innings, he did a great job and held the Bayside team to one run. Bayside's pitcher was excellent as well not surrendering a run in the first two innings and striking out our first four hitters which had not been done all year. In the bottom of the third we broke through with some small ball producing two runs and took the lead with two beautifully executed bunts by Brian Hillis and John Priani. Bayside tied the game in the next inning against Anthony who also pitched two great innings. In the bottom of the fifth we broke through for 5 runs capped by John Priani's 3 run double. Mike McGrath then shut down Bayside to end this game and give us the victory.

Game MVP - John Priani

Game # 2 Baymen 29 Roslyn 3

Not much to say about this game other than the boys came to hit on this day with 27 total hits which included many long doubles and triples. the top five in the batting order went a combined 16 for 18 with 20 RBI's.Mike Lazos and Mickey Hopkins combined on a no hitter.

Game # 3 Baymen 22 - Port Washington 0

Once again the boys came out hitting and had another 20 hits led by Mike Lazos and Anthony Pristera who were a combined 6 for 7, Mickey Hopkins also had 2 long triples and 4 RBI's. Mickey also started this game and again pitched great combining on another no hitter with Billy Huber and Josh Gerson.

Game MVP - Billy Huber

Game # 4 Baymen 10 Roslyn 3

This game saw a tough Roslyn team not being intimadated by having lost the previous day by 27 runs. They battled us and led 2 -0 going into our half of the third inning. we broke it open in the third with 5 runs capped by a long triple to right field by Marc Wangenstein, Marc also tripled again in the fifth to put the game away and advance us into the finals against Bayside. Anthony Pristera relieved Eric Peper in this game and pitched great shutting the door on Rosyln allowing us to take the lead and never look back.

Game MVP - Marc Wangenstein

Championship Game Baymen 5 Bayside 2

Both teams were set up to face each other with their best pitchers available for the entire six innings. The game started off with 3 scoreless innings and looked to stay that way with excellent defense for both teams. In the Fourth inning we broke through with three runs Billy Huber singled to lead it off and then Mike Lazos doubled to deep center field to chase him home with the first run. Mike McGrath then helped himself with a huge homerun to deep center field to give us a 3 -0 lead. Bayside tried to battle back in their half of the fifth inning but our defense stepped up and held them to one run. In the top of the 6th inning we plated 2 more runs, after Brian Hillis started the iining with a single Andrew Grieve tripled down the third base line to score Brian and then Billy Huber chased him home with a single. Mike McGrath then shut bayside down in the last inning to close out the game and give us the championship.

Everyone played excellent baseball all weekend the defense was spectacular and the offense was unbelievable.

Mike McGrath won the Championship game MVP for his complete game win in the Final and big Home run.

Mike Lazos won the Tournament MVP hitting .714 going 10-14 with 9 RBI's

No one hit under .400 in this tournament and 9 players hit over .500.
