Charlton loses 4-2 to West Nassau
In a game where the bats of Charlton only managed 4 hits, Charlton ended up on the short end of a 4-2 score against the visiting team from West Nassau. The pitching and defense were our downfall tonight as we walked 7 batters, hit another, and committed 3 costly errors. Byron Knowles was outstanding behind the plate, throwing out 2 baserunners and Rodney Maggert was able to pitch 3 scoreless innings to start the game, but in the forth, West Nassau jumped on the board as our defense committed a 2 out, 2 run, based loaded error that allowed 2 runs to score. Even with the error, the game game was in our grasp up until the end. Leading hitters for tonights game, Byron Knowles 2 for 3 with a run scored, Derek Carter 1 for 2, Cody Warren 1 for 3, and Daniel Crosby contributed with an RBI on an errant throw by West Nassau.

Shorthanded Charlton boys go 2-2 on Saturday
On a day were football, band and a wedding caused the teams of Charlton county to be without some key players, the teams were able to play solid baseball for most of the games. The 13-14 years old won 15-0 against Appling then laid an egg against Grave Danger, losing 17-1. The 15-19 played 2 solid games and could have easily won both, however they lost the first game 5-1 against Brunswick Grinders and won the second game 6-2 against the Camden Riverdogs.
First Game (13-14 yr olds): Ryan Stewart pitched 3 innings of no hit baseball and the bats of Charlton were on fire, amassing 15 hits in the game. Leading hitters for the game were, Jacob Baxter 4 for 4 with 2 RBI and 2 Runs scored, Chris Smith was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored, Ryan Stewart was 2 for 3 with a Home Run, a triple, 5 RBI and 2 runs scored, Jesse King was 3 for 3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Will Gowen, Jeb Stewart, and Brad Baxter each added a hit. Buddy Wells walked and scored his first run of the season.
Second Game (13-14 yr olds): The team had to play this game without 2 of the older boys as they were playing with the 15-19 year olds in order for them to have a full team. I think we wasted some hits in the first game as our bats went dead in this game, as we were only able to manage 1 hit for the game and Ryan Stewart had that hit and was able to score our only run a couple batters later. The Grave Dangers obviously came to play as they scored early and often, whooping our boys. Also our defense was not ready for the game, as we committed at least 6 errors. Definitely a game to learn from.
First Game (15-19): Brunswick struck early, scoring 3 in the first inning as our pitching and defense were settling in. This game could have went either way. We managed only 3 hits and scoring only 1 run however, we had the bases loaded twice and they were stranded there both times as we couldn't come up with hits when it counted. We also committed 2 errors on defense allowing 3 of the other teams' 5 runs. The double play combination of Cody Warren and Rodney Maggart was not intact today as one half (Cody) was missing, but Rodney added yet another DP to the tally for the season, with a great assist from the pitcher (Marcus)on a 1-6-3 DP, which makes 6 and counting for the season. All in all, I think it was a good game, considering some players were playing in positions they are not used to playing and also players were getting their first opportunity to play a full game due to being shorthanded. Marcus Lloyd and Rodney Maggart combined to pitch and did a great job, holding them to 3 hits. And on the flip side, we only managed 3 hits, 1 by M. Lloyd, a double to the fence (bomb- first hit of the season) by Jacob "Seaweed" Seaward and a base hit by Byron Knowles.
Second Game (15-19): Camden jumped out early, scoring 2 in the top of the first on back to back doubles off the bats of the first 2 hitters, then our pitching found its groove allowing only 1 more hit for the game. Daniel Lloyd was nervous and struggled early but after the first inning, he really settled down and his confidence grew more and more as his superb defense and outstanding catching by Byron Knowles helped him pitch, what turned out to be a very good game. Daniel allowed 3 hits, 2 runs and struck out 3 while walking 3. Charlton scored 1 in the 2nd as Chris Smith got his first hit of the season and later scored on an RBI ground out by Quinton Beasley. In the 3rd inning, the bats came alive as Marcus Lloyd led off with a monster blase to almost dead center, Derek Carter followed with a line drive single up the middle and Byron Knowles continued the hitting with a 2 Run shot of his own over the Left-Center field fence. We never trailed after that. In the 4th and final inning, Marcus hit another Blast over the fence. Leading hitters, Marcus Lloyd 2 for 2, 2 Home Runs, 3 RBI and 2 Runs scored, Byron Knowles 1 for 2, 1 Home Run, 2 RBI, 1 Run scored, Chris Smith 2 for 2 with a run scored, Derek Carter 1 for 2 with a run scored, and Quinton Beasley with an RBI. Also of note, Ryan Stewart from the 13-14 year old team filled in nicely at second base.
DUGOUT CLUB MEETING
There is a Dugout Meeting scheduled for October 21st at 6:00 P.M. at Indian Field. Items for discussion, new uniforms for the upcoming season.
Charlton beats McIntosh
October 14, 2008
Tonight, Charlton traveled to McIntosh County and came home with the victory. The game only lasted 5 innings due to a lighting issue, but Charlton was able to strike early with 3 runs in the first 2 innings and hang on for the win. Marcus Lloyd gets the win, pitching 2 innings and striking out 4 and Rodney Maggart earned a save with Byron Knowles pitching a solid 2 innings in between. The pitching combined for a 1 hitter (which was lost in the dark sky) and the defense was decent with the combination of Cody Warren and Rodney Maggart turning out to be a lethal combination up the middle, turning 2 double plays during the game. Charlton managed 5 hits, 2 by Micheal Taylor who had a single and a double off the bench, and 1 each by Daniel Crosby, Josh Griffin and Cody Warren. We also were aggressive on the bases, stealing 7 bases during the game. Final Score Charlton 5, McIntosh 3.
Charlton Boys go 1-3 on Saturday
Charlton boys finish Saturday 1-3.
Charlton (15-19) played 12 innings of baseball yesterday and only commited 1 error. What a great improvement on the defensive side. The first game against Jeff Davis, Charlton only managed 1 hit by Rodney Maggart. Our pitching and stellar defense kept us in the game all the way to the end. The game went quick due to the great pitching and defense by each team. Clint Rhoden and Rodney Maggart each pitched 3 innings allowing only 5 hits. Cody Warren turned 2 double plays at second base. Final Score Jeff Davis 2 Charlton 0.
In the second game, Charlton faced a good hitting CCA (Coffee county). Our defense remained strong and our bats managed 5 hits. Josh Griffin had a single and a monster 2 run home run in the 3rd to give us a 4 run lead, Rodney Maggart, Aubrey Shivers, and Byron Knowles each chipped in with a hit.
Clint Rhoden started the second game also and pitched 3 2/3 innings allowing only 2 runs. Aubrey Shivers pitched 1 1/3 innings not giving up any runs. Then the bats came alive for the CCA team, scoring 3 runs off of Rodney Maggart in the bottom of the 6th to take the win. Final Score CCA 5 Charlton 4.
Summary: Great Defense, Solid Pitching, Average Hitting. 2 Close and exciting games that could have went either way. Congrats go out to the players for a noticeable improvement of teamwork and commitment to getting better. Keep up the good work. This Saturday is an off week.
Charlton (13-14) finish 1-1. The boys did not come ready to play this Saturday, losing the first game 10-2 to the under manned Stingrays and winning the second game 9-4, beating the young Appling team. Even though we won, the game was poorly played be Charlton. Hopefully we can get it together for the next weekend and polish up the defense to make a good run in the end of the season tournament on the 25th of October.
Charlton(15-19) lose 19-2
September 30, 2008
In another error filled game, the Charlton 19u team lose to Baker County 19-2. The game started great as we were able to load the bases in the top of the first inning, but we were unable to score. In the bottom of the first, Baker was able to score 6 runs on 3 errors by the Charlton defense. And that was how the rest of the night went. Charlton was able to manage 2 runs on 6 hits, 3 by Rodney Maggert and 1 each by Josh Griffin, Marcus Lloyd and Daniel Crosby. Daniel Crosby and Rodney Maggert each pitched 3 solid innings but once again were let down by the defense which committed 10 errors.
