    Jr. Bobcats League Night

    Saturday, March 21st Bobcats vs. Pacers at 7:00 PM - Gates open at 6:00 PM

    The Clover Recreation Department invites all participants to come see the Bobcats and celebrate the Winter 2008-09 Youth Basketball League. All participants may use their vouchers to attend this game. Outside of the two (2) tickets alloted you may bring family and friends, however they will have to pay the price of admission. Depending on the section we are in, additional tickets will cost $12 to $15.

    Youth Basketball Rules

    Game

    Coin toss to determine first possession. (6U Coed & 8U Coed)
    Jump ball will start the game (10U Boys & Up)
    Score is not kept. (6U Coed)
    Score is kept. (8U Coed & Up)

    Ball Size

    27.0 (6U Coed)
    27.5 (8U Coed)
    28.5 (10U Boys, 11U Girls, 12U Boys & 14U Girls)
    29.5 (14U Boys)

    Players

    4 vs. 4 (6U Coed)
    5 vs. 5 (8U Coed & Up)

    Playing Time

    + Each player must play at least two (2) quarters. (6U Coed)
    + Each player must play at least twelve (12) minutes within the first three (3) quarters of each game. (8U Coed & Up)

    Sitting Rule: Teams with six (6) or seven (7) players plrsent must sit each player at least four (4) minutes during the first three quarters, teams with eight (8) or nine (9) players present must sit each player at least eight (8) minutes during the first three quarters, and teams with ten (10) players present must sit each player at least twelve (12) minutes during the first three quarters. (8U & Up)

    Timing/Substitutions

    + Two (2) timeouts per half during regulation; timeouts do not carry over. One (1) timeout per overtime period. (6U Coed & Up)
    + Four (4) 8 minute quarters; the clock will run for the entire game except at the four minute mark of each quarter for substitutions. There will be no other substitutions during play except during timeouts or injuries. There will only be a ten (10) second interval before the game is restarted during substitutions. (6U Coed)
    + Four (4) 8 minute quarters; the clock will run for the entire game except at the four minute mark of the first three quarters for substitutions and in the last two (2) minutes of the second and fourth quarters. In the last two (2) minutes of the second and fourth quarters the clock will run regulation. Substitutions can only be made at the four minute mark during the first three quarters. The fourth quarter will be regular substitutions. There will only be a ten (10) second interval before the game is restarted during substitutions. (8U Coed & Up)
    + If there is a tie at the end of regulation, there will be no overtime. (6U Coed)
    + If there is a tie at the end of regulation, there will be a two (2) minute overtime period(s) until a winner is determined. The clock will run regulation in the overtime period(s). (8U Coed & Up)

    Defense

    + Full court pressing is not allowed. Teams must play zone defense, man to man defense is not allowed. (6U Coed)
    + Full court pressing is not allowed. Teams can play zone or man to man defense. (8U Coed)
    + Full court pressing is not allowed. Teams can play zone or man to man defense. (10U Boys, 11U Girls & 12U Boys)
    + Full court pressing is allowed (Exception: If a team is up by fifteen (15) points or more then the team cannot full court press). Teams can play zone or man to man defense. (14U Girls & 14U Boys)

    Foul Shots

    + No foul shots during the game. All fouls will be taken out from the sideline. (6U Coed & 8U Coed)
    + Foul shots during the game. There will be a stepped up foul line; players may chose to shoot from the stepped up line or the regular line. (10U Boys & 11U Girls)
    + Foul shots during the game. Players must shoot from the regular foul line. (12U Boys, 14U Girls & 14U Boys)
    + No more than 10 seconds can be taken for each foul shot after the ball is in the possession of the shooter (Penalty: Loss of free throw attempt). (12U Boys, 14U Girls & 14U Boys)

    Lane Violation

    + No lane violation. (6U Coed)
    + There will be a 7 second lane violation. (8U Coed)
    + There will be a 5 second lane violation. (10U Boys, 11U Girls & 12U Boys)
    + There will be a 3 second lane violation. (14U Girls & 14U Boys)

    Benches

    + Coaches are responsible for keeping their team on the bench when not playing. (6U Coed & Up)
    + Coaches are allowed to have two (2) assistant coaches on the bench. (6U Coed & Up)
    + A coach from each team will be on the court to coach and officiate the game. Each team can have one coach on the offensive end and one on the defensive end. (6U Coed)
    + A coach from each team will be on the court to coach the game. Coaches may move up and down the sideline during play. (8U Coed)
    + Coaches will remain on the sideline during play and cannot cross half-court onto the other team's sideline. (10U Coed & Up)

    Ejections and Suspension

    + Any coach or player that is ejected from a game will be suspended for a minimum of one game for the first offense and for the remainder of the season for the second offense (the Recreation Department reserves the right to determine actual length of suspension based upon the infraction that transpires). Any coach ejected from the game must leave the gym. Any spectator ejected from a game will not be allowed to come to any other games and must leave the building immediately. Anyone caught going into any area of the school, other than those designated for league use, will be removed from the program.

    Misc.

    + Neither the school nor the recreation dept. is responsible for lost or stolen items. Neither the school nor the recreation dept. is responsible for injuries. Participants should dress before leaving home. Only soft-soled shoes are allowed on the gym floor. Dressing rooms are not available at the school.


    2008-09 Winter League Information

    AGE GROUPS AND DIVISIONS

    A.  14 & Under Boys   cannot turn 15 before March 1, 2009
         14 & Under Girls   cannot turn 15 before March 1, 2009
         12 & Under Boys   cannot turn 13 before March 1, 2009
         11 & Under Girls   cannot turn 12 before March 1, 2009
         10 & Under Boys   cannot turn 11 before March 1, 2009
          8 & Under Coed   cannot turn 9 befor March 1, 2009
          6 & Under Coed   cannot turn 7 before March 1, 2009 and must be 4 by December 31, 2008

    DRAFT/MEETING

    A. We will hold a coaches’ interest meeting on Thursday, October 16th at the Clover Community Park Building for last year’s coaches and those interested in coaching this year. Meeting times are as follows:

        6:00pm - 6 & Under Coed and 8 & Under Coed.
        7:00pm - 11 & Under Girls and 14 & Under Girls.
        8:00pm - 10 & Under Boys, 12 & Under Boys and 14 & Under Boys.


    B. For the purpose of being fair to all participants and coaches, all players in their assigned age group will go through a draft. Draft dates are as follows:

        10 & Under Boys: Saturday, November 8th at 10:00am at the Clover Middle School gymnasium.
        11 & Under Girls: Saturday, November 8th at 11:00am at the Clover Middle School gymnasium.
        12 & Under Boys: Saturday, November 8th at 12:00pm at the Clover Middle School gymnasium.
        14 & Under Girls: Wednesday, November 19th at 7:00pm at the Clover Middle School gymnasium.
        14 & Under Boys: Wednesday, November 19th at 8:00pm at the Clover Middle School gymnasium.
        All players need to come to the draft ready to play.


    C. Exemption(s): Carpooling exemptions are not allowed.

    1. Head coach son/daughter
    2. Sibling(s)
    3. Relative that is the reason a coach is coaching (ex. An uncle is coaching for his nephew)

    FEES

    A. The registration fee is $40.00 per player and it covers the players’ jersey, officials, equipment, gymnasium usage and any maintenance. The fee does not include shorts, shoes, trophies, or a banquet.

    PRACTICES/GAMES

    A. Scheduled practices for 6 & Under Coed and 8 & Under Coed will begin the week of November 10th at the Clover Middle school gymnasium. Games for 6 & Under Coed and 8 & Under Coed will begin December 6th.

    B. Scheduled practices for 10 & Under Boys, 11 & Under Girls and 12 & Under Boys will begin the week of November 17th at the Clvoer Middle School gymnasium. Games for 10 & Under Boys, 11 & Under Girls and 12 & Under Boys will begin January 10th.

    C. Scheduled practices for 14 & Under Girls and 14 & Under Boys will beging the week of November 24th at the Clover Middle School gymnasium. Games for 14 & Under Girls and 14 & Under Boys will begin January 10th.

    D. Games will be played at Clover High School in the New Gym and the Old Gym unless otherwise notated.

    GYM RULES

    A. Parents are not permitted to be on the gym floor and must sit upstairs in the New Gym. Parents must sit in the bleachers in the Old Gym. Blocking the doorways in either gymnasium is prohibited. Food and drinks are not allowed in the building at the Clover Middle School gymnasium. No basketballs are to brought to the gymnasium. Only those basketballs provided by the Recreation Department for games should be in the gymnasium.

    MISCELLANEOUS

    A. Picture Button Sales: These can be purchased from the Clover Recreation Department approximately a week after pictures have been taken. The cost of the button will be 2 for $5.00. We will only have buttons for players that take individual pictures on picture day.

    B. Jr. Bobcats Program: The Clover Recreation Department is a member of the Jr. Bobcats youth basketball network. Membership in this program offers a unique menu of exclusive benefits to participating leagues, including team-branded uniforms, clinics featuring team coaches and players and tickets to attend actual Bobcats games.

    C. Basketball Clinic: Clover High School head boy's basketball coach Dudley Lybrand will be hosting a basketball clinic for boys and girls on Saturday, December 13th in the Old Gym at Clover High School from 9:00am until 12:00pm. Registration will cost $10.00 per child; you can register for the clinic at the Clover Community Park Building during basketball registrations.
