BLUE DEVILS SUFFER FIRST LOSS
The Blue Devils loss but not without a fight. On a tilted field and very windy Saturday morning the Blue Devils went down 1-0. The first half was dominated by the Strikers having the wind at there back and going down hill.
Goalie Greg was pressured early and often but would not give in. Greg made several saves coming out of the goal and attacking the Strikers forwards. The Blue Devils defense was also up to the task. Andy, Jay and Casey seemed unbreakable. Clearing out every ball and marking up exceptionally well. The wind however made it hard for the ball to travel far. The coaches still felt really good because they knew they where going to have the wind and better field position in the second half. With one minute left in the first half the Strikers got on the board. A nice shot from the left side beat Greg and put the Strikers up 1-0.
From the opening tap of the second half the Blue Devils applied the pressure. Sending several shots on the Strikers goalie but not able to score. At around the 15 minute mark of the second half the Devils almost pulled even. Staying in his position and waiting for the ball to come his way Zach fired a shot just wide of the left goal post. Zach may have missed the goal but that was fine with all the coaches. You see on that shot Zach used his left foot to shoot and he is right footed. We would rather see him miss the shot then position himself to use his right foot. Good job Zach.
Coaches Stars. Gregory, Jay and Kyle.
YOU CAN’ T KEEP A DEVIL DOWN
It didn’t take long for the Blue Devils to rebound from there first loss of the season. Not having a lot of time to think about there loss the Devils where right back at it on Sunday against the Cheltenham Sharks. It was obvious the Devils where mad and came ready to play. Before the parents and Grandparents had time to settle into there chairs TJ scored first, his first goal of the day. A rocket shot into the back of the net. TJ wasn’t through, a couple of minutes later he tallied for his second goal. The Devils where making clean passes and executing the game plan to a tee.
Coach Kennedy was overheard before the game telling the kids they where Monster Trucks and Monster Trucks can not be stopped. Well it showed because the Devils team was running through the Sharks and winning every ball.
The second half was not different. TJ tallied again for a Hat Trick and Conner scored twice for the second time in this short season. I guess it’s true that Monster Trucks flatten Sharks. Devils win 5-0.
Coach Stars, Zach, Andrew, Danny
BLUE DEVILS THRIVE IN THE HEAT
The heat was not an issue for the Blue Devils. From the opening tap the Devils applied constant pressure on the VE Shooters. At around the 20 minute mark of the first half the Devils thought they had there first goal of the season. Unfortunately goal scorer Greg was off sides resulting in a 0-0 half time score.
The second half was no different. The constant pressure finally paid off when Conner tallied for the Blue Devils at the 15 min mark. A well placed shot over the goalies hands (assist Shane). Conner was not through for the day. At the 20 min mark he tallied his second goal of the season (assist Gregory)
This game would not have been won without the Blue Devils defense. The back line of Andrew, Nick, Casey and Jay allowed one shot on goal and intimidated the Shooters forwards all day. This win was a Great TEAM effort and would not have been possible without everyone’s hard work.
The following coach’s stars will be next weeks captains.
Conner, TJ and Nick.
