We need to elect our Board of Directors for the CVHS LAX Booster Club for the 2009-2010 Lacrosse Season.
At this time the following positions are open and/or the following personnel have been nominated:
President - Colleen Hayes
Member at Large #1 - Sammi Jo Thielen
Member at Large #2 - Theresa Clark
Secretary - Kathy Zaleski
Treasurer - Karen Bessette
Our organization cannot be effective without an active volunteer presence. The time commitment for these positions is very manageable, and parents of all players will be expected to be an active member of at least one committee. The main focus at this time is to pull together, get organized, and work as a parent team, so we can ensure a successful Cougar Lacrosse program for our student athletes in the coming year.
The CVHS lacrosse booster positions elections will be held at our meeting on July 13th.
Lacrosse Information for Incoming Freshman (Class of 2013)
Lacrosse is a CIF spring sport and the varsity and JV competitions run from March to May. The official season begins in February. But in reality, to play at a competitive level you need to play year round. We have summer and winter leagues that we encourage our players to participate in and we hold "unofficial" skills development sessions during the winter months. To make the team you must try-outs. Tryouts are usually held at the end of November.
In order to play you must have a stick and the proper personnel protective gear, which includes a quality helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, and gloves. The team requires that you have a suitable black helmet and last year we were able to set up a group purchase for new players on the team. The team recommends Cascade Helmets which cost about $180. All players must have a medical clearance and insurance. Insurance is provided with a US Lacrosse Association membership ( http://www.uslacrosse.org/membership/index.phtml). Also, there is a CVHS physical exam coming up on May 27 at 5 PM. and is good for a whole year. Last year because we had a number of new players the JV team had two sets of games. The less experienced players, participated on the B team and had about 8 games with personnel at the same level. The A team had 16 games and is very competitive. Which team you play on is only a matter of the skill development level of each player. All players practice together. Practice was from 6-8 PM weeknights.
For JV players we have the Pacific Coast League which will beginning in the fall.
We have a mandatory summer camp in July running at night on M, T, W, Th for two weeks beginning July 13th.
We encourage all parents to be a lacrosse booster and participate in our meetings. The next booster meeting is on June 8th at 7 PM in the CVHS Teachers Lounge. Lacrosse is a "self-funded" sport, and the Player Donations are expected to be about $500 for next year.
