Spring Season Game Summaries
Sunday April 19
FPYC Lions 4 goals vs VYS Strikers Black 1 goal
This was the season opener for the spring season and the Lions were ready to get out on the field and play some soccer. The game was played at Colvin Run ES on a mild Spring afternoon. From the outset, the Lions were playing with some aggressiveness and the teams passing was very crisp and deliberate. During the first 7 minutes of play, both teams were testing each other and moving the ball. At the 9 minute mark in the first half, Mary Ellen took a loose ball inside the penalty box and one touched it to the back of the goal for the first score of the match. The Lions kept up the pressure and the midfield of Ayda/Maria/Lily did a fantastic job of controlling the field. Maria had some beautiful passes outside to the wings. At the 12 minute mark, Cara made a beautiful high corner kick and Caitlin was there to settle the ball and drilled into the net for the second goal of the game. The defense anchored by Ashley/Jessica/Ciara/Cara were doing an excellent job of marking and cleraing the ball. Katie also did a superb job in the goal and made 4 solid saves to keep the Strikers scoreless. The Lions kept up the pressude and Lily made a beautiful pass to Mary Ellen, who collected the ball on the left side and made a quick move and scored the Lions third goal of the match. The first half ended with the Lions up 3-0. In the second half, the Lions kept up there passing game and there were several occasions that the Lions put togther 4-5 passes in a row. On a beautiful hustle play off of a goal kick, Lily pressured the ball and took the ball away and then swiftly passed the ball to Gina who was wide open for the fourth goal of the game. The Lions sat back a little with the comfortable lead. The Strikers kept playing hard and with 40 seconds to go in the game, they had a beautiful wide pass out to the wing who colleted the ball and scored the Strikers lone goaol. Overall, this was a soild team perfrmanc with every player contributing equally on the field. Our finishing was excellent and passing was much improved over last season. Great first game Lions!!!
