Laker's Tip Over Hambletonians To Set Showdown
The Laker's finished their home schedule on Monday taking on the Chester Hambletonians for the last time. The Lakers would dominate the ball for most of the game showcasing thier strong defense that once again frustrated their opponent.
Denise Morgan would strike first for Team Green as she pounded the back of the net after receiving a nice feed from Tori C. Morgan the Lakers eight grade striker has played terrific soccer the last scoring 5 goals in the last two games. Denise would go on to score another goal in the last quarter and that would be all the Lakers would need in the 2-0 victory.
The story has been the defense as they have kicked their way to their seventh shutout of the season. With Rebecca Crandall, Alexsis DeLaRosa, Quinn Fagan, Brandee Strigold, Sally Warnock, Carolina Krutka, Carolyn Campagna, and Kayla Naughton the team has put itself in position to have another special finish to the season.
The Lakers will travel to "The Children Of The Corn" field Wednesday to take on S.S. Seward. Game time 4:00....
Two More Down Three to Go
The Lakers defeated Chapel Field and Chester last week 7-0 and 7-1 respectively. Alexsis DelaRosa, Quinn Fagan, Rececca Crandall, and Hannah Noll scored their first modified goals. The Lakers have 3 games remaining...Chester, SS Seward, and Chapel Field. The game vs. Seward should be the big one, as the Lakers will travel to the cornfields for this one.
Miracle Comeback In Fourth Quarter
The rivalry continued Friday, as the Laker's would host SS Seward for the second time this season. Always up for the game Team Green knew that if they were going to beat the Spartans they would have to play better than the last game.
Not more than 2 minutes into the game the Laker defense was put in a bad position by the Seward left-winger. She juked out Danielle after getting through the usually impenetrable wall and put a sharp left footed bouncer past the keeper to find nylon. The Lakers would play the quarter tough and get some looks but once again they were unable to find net. The first 15 minutes would end a 1-0 Spartans.
The Lakers B-Squad would hold down their net like it was the Alamo keeping any shots from further hurting their chances. Seventh grader Ashley Addonisio is starting to get more comfortable in net and with rough and tumble defender Carolyn Campagna to push some people around the new keeper would pitch another shout-out quarter.
The third quarter would see the first legit chance for the Lakers to get on the scoreboard. Tori C would receive a penalty kick after a handball in the box. Tori got good leather on the ball but she bashed it right into the arms of a waiting Seward goalkeeper. The period would end with the Lakers looking at a 1-0 deficit.
In the final quarter the Lakers would finally see the some wear and tear on the Spartan defense. Adding Bridget Escaravage into the offense would spark a score as she would receive a low corner kick and put a perfect header into the corner to knot the score at 1-1. With time wearing on Coach Cron subbed in Cory D. One last shot was what Coach was looking for and it worked as the much improved team leader in goals would get a break away on a nice feed from Escaravage and rip the net. GAME! 2-1 Lake Show......
Cron's Corner
For the first time in a very long time I was nervous that we were not going to come out on top. We just could not break through their defense. Finally we wore them down and Bridget and Cori came through with two awesome shots. Our defense was great per usual. We worked on corner kicks in practice and it paid off as the first goal came off a corner kick. I now owe Bridget candy for getting a header goal. Well time to go shopping....

Chester Gives The Lakers A Scare
Friday the Lakers played host to the Chester Hambletonians for their second meeting of the season. Team Green may have been a little over confident in this one due to the continued success of the team. The game would take on some significance, as the Lakers would go for their 25 straight win without a loss.
Chester may not have known about the 25 or even cared but they were not going to let Team Green just roll all over them. The game would see Chester put up a wall on defense and net. With the Lakers pressing the offense, shots by Cori D and Denise Morgan would find a waiting Chester goalie that just refused to let the ball cross the line. Four quarters saw lots of shots by the Lakers but no whistle. With a penalty shot in the fourth quarter the Lakers were sure to get a score. NOT! As Danielle Dix hit the ball wide right sending the Lakers into the final quarter tied 0-0.
With a few line changes to add offense Coach Cron would make a bold move to pull his best goalie to add offense. Cron had confidence that first year goalie Ashley Addonisio could make a big save if the situation arose. With Danielle up front and the speed of Bridget Escaravage the Hambletonians would wear down and finally give up a score. Bridget broke free on a beautiful feed from Denise Morgan to put the Lakers on the board.
Chester was never able to mount an offense against the always-tough Laker D. The Lakers would go on to score 3 more goals in the quarter for a hard fought 4-0 victory.
Cron's Corner
Chester really impressed me in this game. Their coach has continued to work hard with them and you can see how much they have improved. We have to watch out because if we let our guard down we will be in trouble. With SS Seward coming up this week we need to work on shot placement. We had tons of shots in this game but we hit them right up the middle too much. Three days to get it right till the big game. Hope to see you at the game....
Lakers Whip Lions
The Lady Lakers are on a roll! The Lakers welcomed the Chapel Field Lions to GWL Thursday. The scoring was fast a furious as the Lakers scored 5 goals in the first half. Cori D was at it again notching two more goals to take her team leading total to 8. The Lakers took advantage of a small Chapel Field team bullying the ball into scoring rage while preventing the Lions from getting any quality shots. Playing with a running clock was a change for the Lakers but it did not stop the momentum. Denise Morgan scored her goal as a middle school player and added a second for safekeeping.
The Lakers B Team had no trouble following the A Team. Scoring for the B Team Bridget Escaravage would put the game out of reach for the Lions. The Lakers will host Chester next Friday at home.
Cron's Corner
We didn't have much trouble with this team. They usually have problems with inexperience and constant coaching changes. They did score a goal against our B Team and it was nice to see them get excited. I think we did well keeping our concentration and we have more practice time befoe we host Chester next Friday. Hope to see you there!!!

Lakers Knock Chin Guards With SS Seward
The Lakers took on rival S.S. Seward Tuesday in their home opener. With a nice crowed on hand to give support the Lakers would play an inspired game.
It did not take long to get on the board as team captain Tori C would settle and shoot a screamer into the upper right hand corner of the nylon. With a 1-0 lead the Lakers found themselves in a rough battle to keep the ball of their net. With a lot of pushing and hard kicking the battle at mid-field would be won by Seward as a feed from the right wing found Danielle Dix on her heels. She was able to get a hand on it but the ball would trickle behind her and roll right on the line. Alexsis DeLarosa was there and tried to kick the ball back into play but the whistle blew and the first score by an opposing team was registered against Team Green. The period would end with a 1-1 tie and it was clear that it was "Game On."
Quarter two would see the Lakers B Team keep the ball moving into the Spartans zone. Bridget Escaravage (center/striker) was able to attack the Spartans goal but was unable to cash in due to the tough defense by the visiting club. The ball continued to go back and forth and there were many scoring opportunities by both squads but no one was able to find net.
Quarter three would continue much like Q2 but it was clear that new defender Brandee Strigold would not let the Spartans mount any type of serious offense. She showed toughness and grit for a first year modified player. The quarter would end without a goal and it was looking like it might end up in a tie.
The last quarter Coach Cron would mix and match with a new line up to try to get some scoring. Pulling Danielle from goal and using her to feed Bridget was the answer. Escaravage would get a smooth pass from Dix early in the quarter and crush the ball into the Seward goalie. The keeper tried to stop it but the shot was too hot to handle and the ball deflected off her hands in to a Spartan defender and into the back of the net. This was all the Lakers needed to secure a win as the defense held for a 2-1 win....
Rebecca playing tough D!
Cron's Corner
Wow! What a well-played contest..Did anyone expect anything different from a GWL vs. Seward game?? This game could have gone either way but it was clear that our defense was just a little better. Two of the goals in this game were kind of odd but it showed that what we do in practice pays off. I want to give a game ball to Brandee Strigold she played a tough game. Where was this kid last year? We have to wait while till our next game but we will be ready when Chapel comes to GWL. I hope everyone enjoyed the contest. The crowed was great. Thanks for coming out.....

Laker D Locks Down On Chester
With 22 straight wins to their credit the 2008 Greenwood Lake Modified Girl's Soccer Team has a lot to live up to. With 9 girls moving on to Tuxedo High School and two of them securing varsity positions (Simone Bugard & Brittany Burton) this year has taken on a whole new look. Still in all the program at GWL has gained popularity and this season has brought the biggest team yet to the playing field (23 players). With 10 returning players and 13 rookies the squad has a mix of experience. The first test of the year came Friday as the Lakers traveled to Chester.
The Lakers won the toss at midfield and elected to start with the ball. With a whole new front line the offense took some time to get in tune with each other. Moving the ball effectively into Hambletonian territory Cori Delisi would dribble past a defender and find the corner of the net with a sharp boot in to the left corner of the net. The Lakers D would hold strong as Rebecca Crandall, Brandee Strigold, Alexsis DeLaRosa, and Quinn Fagan would put up a wall that would not be penetrated. With such solid defense Danielle Dix would not get much action between the posts. The Lakers would end the quarter with a 1-0 lead.
Starting the second period the Laker's B team would take the field. With as much inexperience as a Lakers team has seen in 2 years this new crew was able to keep the ball out of their own net. With only a 1-0 lead the Lakers new goalie Ashley Addonisio would face her first penalty shot and she would come up big as she stopped a straight up screamer that she did not have to move much for. For as much as she did not have to move the shot was very hard. She stood her ground and secured the ball tightly. The new squad was able to hold the score at 1-0 and send the A team back in to do damage.
Cori Delisi was the story in the third period as she found the net three more times on nice passes from Lauren B and Denise Morgan. Denise and Victoria C also had some nice shots on goal but were stopped by solid saves by a game Chester goalkeeper. The Lakers would finish the period with a 4-0 lead and they never looked back as they would go on to a 6-0 victory.
Lauren B would also add two late goals for Team Green...
Cron's Corner
I was real happy with the effort during this game. We have worked very hard in practice and I can see some great things happening this season. We still need some work keeping our B Team offense spread out. As the new kids learn their positions they will make better decisions and find themselves with scoring opportunities. I was hoping to play a few more games before we have to play SS Seward but no such luck. They are sure to expose any weaknesses we have so we better be ready to go. I have to say this team has worked as hard in practice as any team I've coached. So if we keep working hard we will have a fun successful season. Great job ladies!
