March 31, 2009
All,
For those interested in some of the local summer programs, here is what we have going on. I encourage our players to participate in whatever program they are comfortable. Any experience will help you learn more about the game, and expand your skill set.
1) Hernando - Mens Open Pick up games. (Registration forms will be available soon)
When: Monday Nights 6:30 - 8pm (May through June excluding Memorial Day)
Where: Veteran Memorial Park - Field #3
Cost: $40 for the 8 Week season. Walk up fee will be $10per week with signed waiver.
This will be open to anyone High School aged, and above. No Experience is required. We will play 7v7 or 10v10 depending on the number of players each week. There will be No Body Checking!
We want it to be a safe and fun experience for all. Bring your own reversible jersey.
2) Shooters Summer program. Information can be found at the following site:
http://www.tampalacrosse.com/
This is not run by Hernando Lacrosse Club, but we have had groups of players enter as a team. We would like to have some Parent representation if we do form a team from Hernando to act as coach. Its more of a coordination role to help rotate players etc. No experience is required.
3) Tampa Tribe Travel Team. Information can be found at the following site:
http://www.wclacrosse.com/
Select the Tribe link.
Tampa Tribe Evaluation Camp
9am to 4pm, Sunday, May 3rd, 2009
The Tampa Tribe will hold their evaluations for all teams. The camp will cost $35 and is a great camp even if your not interested in playing for the Tribe travel team. If you are, this is the place to get seen.
4) Bay Area Sandsharks - More information can be found at there site:
http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=sandsharks

Important Information - Please read
November 25, 2008
All,
The 2009 Season Registration is now underway. There are several key items that I would like to share with everyone. Please take the time to read this important communication.
1) Registration forms are now available on our site,as well as the HCRD site. We do need signed forms for players during these clinics for use as a waiver, so please print and fill them out and have your child bring them to the clinic with or without a check. (Registration must be paid prior to the beginning of the season)
2) HCRD handed out flyers today at all local schools today. I have attached the flyer for your reference to this email. Please feel free to print and hand that out to any potential players.
3) Important Dates coming up:
- Thursday December 4th
- Skills session at Veterans Memorial Park. 6-8 pm we will be using the softball outfield.
- The Hernando Times will be taking pictures so lets get a big turnout.
- Thursday December 11th and 18th - Skills session at Veterans Memorial Park. 6-8 pm again in the Softball outfield
4) December 13th - 34th Annual Brooksville Christmas Parade
- We will walk the Parade route as a entire program. I would like to invite all returning players and family to walk with us along the route.
- We will hand out jerseys for the kids to wear for the day, and get us some exposure among the community.
- We ask that all players bring 1 bag of candy to throw along the route...more information to follow on this.
5) We have some coaching adjustments to announce.
- High School - Myself, Chris Curtis will be joined with Troy Platt and possibly Sean Arnold (when work allows). Together we will manage the Varsity and JV teams.
- Middle School - Carmine Rufa has agreed to move up with his son Dominic to take the Lead with MS. We are still working with him to get some help at that age group.
- Youth - Mike Peterson has agreed to take the Youth program, with his son Tyler and start to build on that age group.
- Kids - Mario has taken the youngest players and will be coaching his childrens age group.
Note: As you may all already know, these coaches donate hundreds of hours of there own personal time/money to instruct the players in our organization. Please take the time to remind them of how much its appreciated and help out where you can.
- We are always in need of parents willing to help out, organize fundraiser opportunities etc.
- We remain the most reasonable alternative within the Tampa Area to play lacrosse by a huge margin. If you go to http://www.tampabaylacrosse.com/wfll/index.htm and look at the different programs, you will find the costs for each. This has always been important to me and please also remember to thank the HCRD department for allowing us this great opportunity to operate in this fasion. Without them, this would be impossible.
Please contact me if you have any questions at 352-200-6111.
Thanks, Coach Greg.
Girls Lacrosse program ?
October 9, 2008
All,
We are getting lots of feedback about adding a Girls program to the Hernando Lacrosse Club. I would love to do it, but we will need lots of help to get it off the ground. I am actively looking for a Middle School and High School coach to get it off the ground as well as someone to Admin the Girls side. We also will need lots of players to get it going.
Please contact me if you know anyone interested as this would be a great addition to the HCRD program.
Thanks, Greg
Fall Workouts - Conditioning
Running program:
I wanted to share a running program, and wall ball program that the Fire staff (Thanks to Keith Olsen) have shared for our players. I believe that we need to focus on conditioning more then ever. This would be a great example of something to get you started. Remember, its up to you to take your conditioning seriously, and to get the most out of your game. Enjoy.
Startup
- jog a half mile to warm-up
- stretch
- Alternate workout 1 and 2 (Need to get 3-4 workouts a week to be effective)
Running workout 1
10 – 40 yard dashes – no more than 10 seconds of rest – if you can have someone time you
– sprints that do not get pushed all the way each time are less valuable for you…
Rest for 3 minutes - sip water then move to
6 – 100 yards dashes timed
Running workout 2
6 sets of flying 20’s (jog for 20 – sprint 20- jog 20 – sprint 20)
– jog 20 turn and sprint 20 and repeat…
- These are done best on a football field or soccer field…
- Do not slow down or ramp up – this is exploding for 20 yards and then jog and explodes for 20 again.
4 - 220’s – the first 220 is a run at about 50%... this gets you prepped
- You run the first 220 at 50% then walk the other half of the track or use full field for back and forth (end zone to end zone)
- When you reach your start point you now sprint as hard as you can – 220
- Walk the rest of the track and repeat this process so that you sprint hard for 3 of them after two weeks
– go to 4 and so on until you get to 6
Remember you need to warm up with a half mile run and normal stretches…
- each night do core… sit-ups; table tops; supermen; on your back bicycles for 15 – 20 minutes
These type of program will help get you prepared for the season.
NOTE: Adjust as age appropriate, and talk with your parents before you begin.
