We need 2 parent volunteers to walk along with the float....please let Robin Aborn at Raborn1@verizon.net or Susan McCusker @mccusker1@comcast.net know if you can be in the parade with the float.

Thanks!

LMC Rowing

Lincoln Maritime Center has a racing single and double for use this summer for interested high school rowers.  One of the best ways to improve your big boat skills is to row in small boats. Many big rowing colleges pick the varsity 8 by how well they row in pairs. This is a great opportunity to gain some skill, perfect your rowing motion, and stay sharp on details that make an 8 fast. Sculling is one of the best ways to keep your sweep rowing on track and to improve your stroke as well as log some low intensity miles before the start of next season

The boats are available Monday to Saturday from 6:15 AM to 1030 AM and the price is $185, and it is a non coached session. There is a small captain’s test and a practical demonstration. Private instructions are available on request.

Stop by LMC or email John Cotter at john-cotter@hotmail.com if you have any questions

  LMC Sweep Skills Camps

LMC Summer Girls Sweep Skills Camp - July 13th to July 17th

LMC Summer Boys Sweep Skill Camp - July 27th to July 31st

Join Sarah Dewey, former World Champion and current Hingham High school girl’s varsity coach for a week of Skill Development Camp

An Intensive 5-day individual skill development camp rowing in a Vespoli 8, designed for the experienced HS or college racer who wants to hone the finer points of the stroke to improve their racing edge. The class would run daily from 6 AM to 8 AM, Monday and Friday to 9 AM for video review.
The focus will be on details and technique and not on conditioning. Much of the time will be spent rowing as pairs and fours with individual attention to the small details of the sweep stroke.

Mon – 6 to 9 AM

Tues - 6 to 8

Wed - 6 to 8

Thurs -6 to 8

Fri      - 6 to 9

LIMITED ENROLLMENT, Four ports, Four Starboards

The other coaches and I would like to make clear the criteria that we have employed - and will employ for athletes who will be awarded a Varsity letter at this year's annual dinner.

In general, if you rowed in our 1st or 2nd boat at the END of the season (NEIRA/MPSRA) you should receive a Varsity letter.

Those athletes who rowed in 1-3 early season races of the 1st or 2nd boats - but not later in the season, will not likely receive a Varsity letter.

Seniors who have showed exemplary participation in the program since the beginning of their rowing, will likely receive a Varsity letter.

Athletes who received a varsity letter in another season of rowing should receive a varsity pin (for returning varsity) and who find themselves in a lower (3rd) boat will not be demoted. They will be considered varsity.

Any student who, in the coach's judgment, demonstrates varsity effort may receive a Varsity letter.

Athletes who spent most of the year in the 3rd boat, will receive a Junior varsity letter.

Novices unless they have been elevated to a higher boat during the season, should receive a certifcate of performance.

Any student who questions this policy or who is unsure prior to the award dinner should contact his or her coach before Thursday afternoon.

You may also contact me.

Thank you,

Doug McCaig

Can and Bottle Drive

Hi Everybody!

The can drive on Saturday, June 20 netted us $294.50.   Thank you to the dedicated rowers and parents who came, sorted, bagged and transported all the cans and bottles.  Thank you do all of you who saved those cans and bottles.  We are up for a day at the dump in October.  Keep saving those cans and bottles.
Thank you

NEIRA Championships, Saturday, May 23, 2009

We have 3 boats that have qualified for the NEIRA Championships on Saturday, May 23, 2009.

Land Workouts to Prepare for Lowell Invitational

Land Workouts to Prepare for Lowell Invitational Saturday, May 9th

One in Eight Regatta sponsored by Cape Cod Rowing, Inc.

Johns Pond, Mashpee

Great day for HHS Crew.  We had a great showing!  Will try to post results.
Thanks

They tried again, but couldn't keep up with the Harbormen. This time both the fledgling BC High crew and the Brookline High crew ganged up on the Boys' varsity and couldn't come close on the Charles River. Replacement crew members Jake Allen (Coxswain) and Chris Stenson (2 Seat) did a great job filling in for absent team mates and helped deliver a big win today. Great job Jake and Chris and great job Nina Villanova for coaching this week.

The novices were a little late rowing the 6 miles to the race start and had to compete with Brookline and BC High's 2nd varsity. Coach Villanova reported a great start but a loss of momentum in the middle of the race resulting in a 3rd place finish for the Harbormen.

Thank you Annie Leahy for filling in and coxing your first race.

Do your homework and get ready for the season. If you are not involved in Ro*Fast, every interested team member needs to be getting himself or herself ready for the Spring. As of next week  the days will be getting longer, and we will begin our race preparation in  earnest. We are all looking forward to a great season. Mr. McCaig
