September 3, 2007
The Boys finished the 2007 OC Kick-off by reaching the finals, but falling to PSG 1-0. The Boys had a 2-2 record, having previously also lost to PSG 1-0 in bracket play. In other bracket play, the Boys defeated Arsenal-white 2-0 and Club America 2-1.
Irvine Strikers BU12 -- West Coast Classic Finalists
The Boys announced their arrival at the 2007 West Coast Classic, winning their bracket, winning the semi-finals, and reaching the Finals before falling to IE Strikers 2-0. The Boys won their bracket by defeating San Diego Surf 4-3, F.C. Barcelona-Blue 2-1, and Laguna Nigel 4-1.
In the opening match against Surf, the Boys fell behind San Diego Surf 3-1 -- with Marco the only goal scorer -- and with minutes remaining in the match. In the last 5 minutes of the match, Trevor scored two goals and Indy scored the game winner as the referee's whistle ended the match. 4-3 Strikers.
Against Barcelona Blue, Indy opened the scoring on a corner kick from Palmer, and Sam scored the game winner when Barca's skillful goalkeeper was unable to control Trevor's shot following a breakaway.
Indy contributed two goals towards defeating Laguna Nigel, with Sam and Ben each getting one, while the Striker defense of Keating, Palmer, Mel, Taylor, and Noah held Laguna to one goal.
The Boys faced Arsenal in the semi-finals, and had one lone goal from Trevor on a breakaway pass from Keating. After the Strikers gave up a goal to Arsenal in the second half, the Boys went to penalty kicks. Adam saved one, and Arsenal missed one, while four Striker Boys found the back of the net -- Palmer, Noah, Indy, and Will.
In the final, and the third game of the day, the Boys faced IE Strikers. The game was 0-0 at half-time. The Boys' calm passing style was no match for IE Strikers' long passes to their forwards, and the Boys gave up 2 goals to finish second in a very competitive tournament.
Congratulations Boys on a job well done!
