Lower Loudoun Little League (LLLL) provides Sterling, Virginia youth age 5-18 the opportunity to play baseball. LLLL is comprised of two separate leagues that are determined by the players' birth date. The American league is for those players with even birth dates and the National league for those with odd birth dates. The leagues are then broken down into different divisions appropriate to the players' age and skill level. All players aged 5 and 6 play in T-Ball, while all 7-year-olds play in Developmental which utilizes a pitching machine. When the player reaches the league age of 8, they must attend Spring tryouts and be entered into the draft. Tryouts are usually held during the last week in February and the first week in March and the draft follows immediately. If a player fails to make tryouts, they are either placed in 1) the lowest league appropriate for their age or 2) the league that they played in the previous Spring season.
The following is the age break down of the divisions:
T-Ball (5 - 6) Developmental - Machine Pitch (7 -8) Rookie - Machine Pitch (8 - 10) AA (8 - 10) AAA (9 - 11) Majors (10 - 12) Juniors/Seniors - 90 ft. (13 - 16) Big League - 90 ft. (17-18)
The Spring season generally runs from mid-April to mid-June. Practices begin in late-March. LLLL also has a less competitive Fall season that runs from early-September until late-October with practices beginning in late-August. There are no tryouts in the Fall and players are generally placed one division higher than what they played in the Spring. If players did not play in the Spring, they will be placed in the appropriate division.
