GLADIATORS TAKE 3RD PLACE IN ARCHDIOCESE CHAMPS
May 31, 2009 - 11:45 AM
Congratulations to our Gladiators who competed at the Archdiocesan CYO Championships at historic Franklin Field at the University of Penn.
Over 120 parishes/teams were represented yesterday. Our Girls took 3rd overall to bring back to Buckingham a great looking plaque ( I will display it after next week's masses). This marks the 4th straight year that the OLG Girls have placed in the top 3.
2006- 2nd place; 2007 - 1st place; 2008 - 2st place)
Our boys scored 15 total teams points. This is the most points our boys have scored at a CYO Championship meet in our young 4 year history. What is significant about these 15 points is that 10 of them were won by the Novice Boys 4x100 team of Brian Daniels, Liam Mullun, Liam Nolan, Jack Lamb, and Ryan Schmidt who our first GOLD MEDAL for OLG.
On the girls side, we won 3 gold medals. Our Novice Girls 4x100 team of Maddie Mrytetus, Taylor Martin, Ashley Martin, Megan Shewbrooks, and Julia Gallagher out ran their opponents by almost a full second. What a proud moment for Coach Clare Daniels to see her two relay teams (Boys and Girls) win gold medals. Outstanding feat.
Speaking of outstand ing feats, Emma Keenan turned in two remarkable performances. In the 14 years of being involved with CYO, never have I seen a day where a runner run back to back gruelling races within 90 minutes to not only win gold medals, but break the CYO records in the 400 and 800 meter runs. She ran the 400 in a time of 57.40, almost 2 seconds faster than the record she establised last year, and a 2.16.64 in the 800. Two incrediable and exciting performances we witnessed yesterday.
Other Gladitors that scored points were the girls 4x800 team of Tate Dawson, Caitlin Shewbrooks, Meridith Reiche, and Veronica Eder. Veronica scored a point in the 1600, Julia Gallagher in the 100 and 200 meter runs, Tim Markiewicz in the 200, Brian Daniels in the 100, Maddie Myrteus in the HJ, the 4x200 team of Megan Shewbrooks, Taylor Martin, and Ashley Martin.
Danille DeMichael, Eric Jackson, Tess Van Scott, Colby Tallia, Kevin Kuhn, Maddie Rieche, and Dylan Oelkers also made the trip to the champs to compete or represented our team as alternates.
Special thanks to all the OLG coaches that made the trip to coach and support the team were Dan Cervellino, Steve Martin, Jeff Gallagher, Bob Daniels, and Clare Daniels, as well as all our OLMC and St Martin coaches. Also congratulations to our OLMC Boy cousins who won 2nd place overall, and Caitlin Crowley from St Martins, the lone Mustang who won the Gold Medal in the Novice girls high jump.
