Welcome to the home of
Dewitt Cub Scout Pack 502

Each spring the Migisin District (Clinton County) of the Chief Okemos Council seeks nominations for Cub Scout families that go above and beyond in supporting not only their local pack but also the district and council itself.  When first grader Bobby Mowry joined Pack 502, chartered by Redeemer United Methodist Church, he brought with him his very enthusiastic parents.  By the next fall his dad, Marc, had stepped up to take over as den leader and his Mom, Missy and her girlfriend Tina Gillam, had signed on to coordinate the popcorn sale for the Pack.  Little did the Pack know that Missy would take an already very successful popcorn selling program and make it even better - out selling every other Pack in the Migisin District fall 2007 which earned her the official title of Popcorn Kernel.  Meanwhile Marc was running a well organized den with great hands-on activities for the boys and serving as Racemaster for the Pack's Raingutter Regatta, Space Derby and PineWood Derby.  The couple make quite a team... with Missy leading the way with two record breaking popcorn sales Marc was able to assist the Pack in buying its own state-of-the-art PineWood Derby track complete with handmade storage boxes from the Mowry wood shop.  A hardy DeWitt congratulations goes out to Marc, Missy, Maddie and Bobby Mowry for being selected as Cub Scout Family of the Year.

July 20, 2009 Wild Wild West

Pack 502 has selected Fitzgerald Park in Grand Ledge being held July 20th thru the 23rd (Monday thru Thursday) for our Day Camp this year. The camp is very well run, safe and the boys have a great time.

We had 41 boys go last year to Holidy Haven Camp, where we have gone the last two years. Once again, due to our great popcorn sale results the Pack will be offering a $40 summer camp scholarship to each boy who sold popcorn! This covers all but $5 of the cost of Day Camp. The theme for this year is the Wild Wild West. During the four days your son will get to experience among other things the BB Gun and Archery Ranges, Handicrafts, Field Sports, and Story Telling. This is a full day camp and is a great way to have your son get a jump start on his den requirements for next year . We will carpool from DeWitt with the adult walkers for that particular day driving. Each boy will receive a shirt and patch for participation in the camp.

Who Can Attend
Cub Scout Day Camp is available to registered scouts completing grades K – 4th. Siblings (boys and girls) who are at least 5 years of age and wish to participate in the program, are known as tag-a-longs, and must be paid registrants. Boys that have completed kindergarten can register as a Spring Tiger with Sandra Ayriss, Pack 502 Registrar, 668-0766, and participate in Day Camp the summer between kindergarten and 1st grade. The scholarship is not available to tag-a-longs or Spring Tigers.

Adult Walkers
•The walkers will work together to be responsible for the boys from our Pack and any other assigned boys.
•Take attendance and inform the director if any boy is absent.
•Ensure each boy is released only to authorize adults.
•Keep the lunches cold, boys hydrated, encourage use of sun protection and help them keep track of their possessions.
•Basically assist the boys as needed, make sure they are safe, make sure they follow the rules and to help them have fun at camp.
This year we are requiring a one-day adult walker commitment for each child attending camp. The adult walker can be a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or friend of the family. (Please contact Chris Tanke for a wavier if this commitment would be a hardship for your family).

May 8th is the sign up deadline. Please submit your forms with a check ($5 for scholarship recipients or $45 for others) check payable to Pack 502 by the May 8th deadline to. We will have handouts and begin accepting forms at the April 16th pack meeting.
