Bayside 7, Proctor 2
July 4, 2009
PROCTOR -- The Bayside Vipers defeated the Proctor Padres in an Upper 13 League baseball game at Egerdahl Field on Independence Day.

Proctor took an early lead with one run in the second inning.  Tim Nylund singled, advanced to second base on a balk, moved to third on a passed ball, and scored on a fielder's choice.

Anthony Bush, Proctor's starting pitcher, removed himself from the game because he was experiencing shortness of breath.  He had thrown three scoreless innings.  He was feeling better by the end of the game.

Reliever Kyle Cotrell allowed three runs in the fourth inning on one hit, three walks, a hit batsman and an error.  He then settled in to throw three three shutout innings and Proctor came within 3-2 in the seventh inning when James Ostrander reached on a hit-by-pitch, moved to second on a single by Jason Melander, got to third on a wild pitch and scored when Tim Nylund reached on an error.

Bayside manufactured a run in the eighth on a pair of singles, a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly to take a 4-2 lead and broke the game open with three runs in the ninth inning, capped by a two-run triple by Pat Davy.

Ostrander and Melander had two hits apiece.  Padres' veteran Bob Baxton was playing his first game of the 2009 season and singled in his first at bat and Matt Chruscielski got his first hit in just his third game played since returning from the disabled list.

Cotrell took the loss.  He allowed seven runs in six innings of relief on six hits and seven walks.

Bayside improves to 6-2 in league play.  Proctor falls to 0-8.

The Proctor Padres Baseball Club was established in 2007 to allow baseball players from Proctor and the surrounding area an opportunity to play the national pastime, to provide a summer hometown baseball experience for players from Proctor and the surrounding area who play baseball in college, and to promote amateur baseball in the western Lake Superior region.  The Padres compete in the Upper 13 League of the Wisconsin Baseball Association.
