Day 9
District 70 12 YO Champions!
The 12YO squad completed their successful trip through the loser's bracket, upending a superb Oceanside American LL squad for the second day in a row to claim the District 70 Crown. Behind the 4+ shutout innings of pitching by Gabe Earich and two big offensive innings, the all-stars earned the 8-3 victory and a trip to the section playoffs. Brody Roberts set the tone with 3 hits from the lead-off spot and Kevin Collard and Michael Benson delivered home runs that were the difference in the game. Playing 6 games in 9 days was a welcome challenge for the all-stars as their focus continued to narrow with their eye on the prize. The team played flawless defense featuring Zach Gallina in centerfield and at least 3 outstanding plays by Brody Roberts at shortstop. As is the norm, this was a total team effort that counted on hits from all parts of the line-up and a complete defensive and pitching effort.
Congrats All-Stars - we'll see you at Clairemont LL on Saturday at 12:00 for the start of Section Play!
Once again all three age group teams were in action on this final Sunday of the Tournament.
The 11YO squad started the day and lost a heartbreaking 9-8 decision to end their title hopes. Great performances were delivered by all of the players and they battled back continuously throughout the game. Hats off to this quality group of performers for representing RBVLL with class and style and thanks to our parents and Manager Joe Pimental and his coach Tim Epp. Look out for this age group of players in 2010!
District 70 10YO CHAMPIONS!
The 10YO squad won in resounding fashion winning 17-4 to earn the District 70 title and advance to section play. Another total team effort with the bats led by the first home run of the season for Jake Van Dam. Jake Aguirre delivered a quality pitching performance limiting the team's opponent to very few hits! Congrats kids, we'll see you at Chollas Lake starting Saturday July 18 as you take your run at the section title!
The 12YO squad continued their march, coming out of the loser's brackets to defeat the tournaments only undefeated team and force a Monday playoff for the District 70 flag. Andrew Apodaca dominated on the hill and he also kick started the offense with a first inning 3-run homer. Kevin Colllard and Michael Benson also delivered long blasts while Joe Bradley picked up his first career home run. The rest of the offense delivered hit after hit, driving the ball through the infield while the defense stepped up their game and provided great defensive support as Brody Roberts closed out the game on the hill. See you Monday in your battle for the title!
Day 7
In a do or die situation, both the 11YO and 12YO all-star teams picked up victories to move into the championship round of the District 70 All-Star tournament.
In the early game, the solid pitching of Josh Quezada, Tanner Epp, and Jake Voss helped steer the 11YO squad to a 5-1 victory, earning them a Sunday date versus Vista National. Beyond the pitching, the 11YO's played solid defense and delivered timely hitting and aggressive base running to lead them to victory.
Following them on the same field, the 12YO old team started slowly trailing 3-2 entering the bottom of the 3rd inning. Our all-star squad would plate 11 runs, highlighted by a 3-run homer from Austin Quinn as they ended the game early with a 13-3 win. The victory earned them a rematch with the host Oceanside American LL squad.
All 3 RBVLL teams will be in action on Sunday as the 11's compete at 12:00 followed by the 10' s at 1:00 and the 12's at 3:00.
Come out and support the kids!
Day 6
All 3 RBVLL teams were in action on Friday night at Oceanside American LL.
In the first game of the night, the 11YO squad came out swinging and earned a 12-2 victory to continue their advance in the loser's bracket. Behind the pitching of Collin Pimentel and Jake Voss, the all-stars played a solid game. Collin Pimentel and Tanner Epp launched home runs to pace a solid all-around offensive attack.
In the second game of the evening the 10YO squad earned a hard fought 9-8 victory to advance to Sunday's District 70 championship game. Several pitchers contributed from the hill and the offense was paced by two home runs from Noah Terrones.
In the nightcap, the 12YO team dropped a tough 15-10 decision to the host Oceanside American. The game was a slugfest between two quality teams and home runs by Michael Benson, Kevin Collard, and Andrew Apodaca were not enough to overcome their opponent. The loss drops the 12's into the loser's bracket where they'll return to the field tomorrow with a goal of winning to earn another shot at Oceanside American.
Thanks to the large contingent of RBVLL fans who came out to support the kids this evening!
Day 5
It was a short day for the RBVLL All-Stars as the 11YO squad returned at 4:00 to complete their suspended game from the prior night. Giving up two runs to their opponent, the RBVLL squad bounced back with two runs of their own to end the game by virtue of the run rule. Zach Testa's first career home run plated the first run and Haydan Hastings ended the game with a sacrifice fly to centerfield that plated Josh Quezada with the game winner. All 3 teams are in action on Friday night with games the at 5:00, 6:00 and 7:30. We'll see you at the fields!
Day 4
The RBVLL 11YO squad was in action as they began their march through the loser's bracket. Following a marathon early game, their game did not get underway until nearly 8:45 pm! Nevertheless, they got the game going before District staff suspended the game just prior to 10:00 with RBVLL ahead 11-1 after 3 innings. Kaile Walter's 2-run home run in the 3rd inning was the final scoring on the night. The two teams will return the field on Thursday @ 4:00 to conclude the game.
Day 3
No RBVLL teams were in action
Day 2
The RBVLL 10YO squad got a fast start in their first tournament game, plating 9 runs in the first inning. The would earn their first victory, 11-0 behind the pitching of Jake Aguirre and quality defense, The win moves them on to the winner's bracket championship game on Friday at 600.
The 12YO squad continued to execute exceptionally well in all facets of the game. Andrew Apodaca went all four innings of this run rule shortened game on the hill. The 12YO's blasted 3 home runs in this game including a grand slam from Michael Benson and home runs from both Andrew Apodaca and Kevin Collard. They once again displayed balance throughout the line-up and solid defense as another team effort led them to victory.
Day 1
With a tough early morning draw the 11YO squad was unable to get untracked and dropped a tough decision to the VNLL All-Stars. They could only muster an RBI single by Kaile Walter and the band box dimensions of the host fields hurt them defensively. It only counts as one loss, and the 11YO squad gets back into action with a goal of running through the loser's bracket as they take the field again on Wednesday.
The 12YO squad was firing on all cylinders. Behind a sparkling pitching performance by Billy Wilczynski and a smothering offensive attack, the 12YO's came out of the gate with a resounding 14-2 win over VNLL. Billy would work the complete (shortened) game and receive offensive boosts from every position in the line-up. Both Michael Benson and Kevin Collard blasted two home runs with Brody Roberts adding a blast of his own. "Chicks dig the long ball" but every hitter in the line-up was hammering the ball and reaching base. Like the 11's, it only counts as one game and the 12's return to action on Monday at 5:00 against ONLL.Thanks to everyone for the strong support!
